You Have to See Salavat Fidai’s Miniature Pencil Sculptures

Many artists use pencils to create beautiful works of art, but there’s something that sets Salavat Fidai apart. Pencils aren’t just a tool that he uses to create art, but art itself.

The Russian sculptor became an Instagram sensation after he started crafting sculptures out of pencil graphite. He became interested in miniature art long before embarking on this challenge and used to create tiny copies of famous paintings on rice, pumpkin, and sunflower seeds.

Fidai eventually settled on pencil graphite, and explained his fascination, telling Bored Panda, “For me, it’s like meditation and a challenge: to make a micro sculpture and not break it! It is indeed very fragile and tiny and that excites me the most.”

Fidai uses a craft knife, and a magnifying glass or a stereo microscope to carve his sculptures, and they’re mostly inspired by pop culture.

Many people took notice of his work after he started crafting Game of Thrones-inspired sculptures. He draws inspiration from many other popular movies and TV shows, in addition to carving pencils shaped like household items, famous buildings, animals, and flowers.
