With more and more of us considering where our food is coming from and the impact it has on the planet, dairy-free milk alternatives have never been more popular. With grocery store shelves lined with soy, almond, rice, and even pea milk, we’re here to make the case that oat milk should be crowned the queen of the vegan pantry.

Sustainability

Oat milk is one of the most sustainable milk options out there. Oats are an extremely low-impact crop, requiring far fewer resources than almonds or cashews. In fact, oat crops actually enrich soil health! They can also be grown in cooler climates in the U.S. and Canada, meaning that unlike soy or coconuts, oat production does not contribute to deforestation in the Global South.

Frothability

Oat milk is the barista’s best friend. Most oat milk brands have impressive micro-foaming capabilities, ideal for your morning latte. In fact, lots of folks prefer the texture and taste of oat milk over other plant milk. Oat milk has a fresh and mild flavor that is not overpowering, and a balanced creamy texture, just like dairy milk.

Versatility

As well as making for a great flat white, oat milk is ideal for sweet or savory cooking and baking, as well as shakes and smoothies. It’s also perfect for cereal, oatmeal, or for whipping up a batch of plant-based pancakes. You can even enjoy a refreshing glass of oat milk straight out of the carton (just don’t forget the cookies)!
