What are Soft Plastics and How Do You Recycle Them?

A lot of people know there are types of plastic that can be recycled again, like drink bottles, but many types cannot be recycled. However, there is a third option that is just as important to focus on, although it does take a bit more education and effort. Soft plastics are a type of plastic that can be recycled, but not in your standard bin.

Soft plastics include things like dry cleaning bags, plastic bags from stores, plastic wrappers from food items, paper products, plastic shipping envelopes, cereal box liners, sandwich bags, and bubble wrap. These plastics aren’t good for the machines that break up hard or rigid plastics, so they need to be processed differently. However, it can be done so you should definitely still recycle them!

In most cities, if you save up these soft plastics you can bring them to a company, facility, or sometimes even a grocery store that will recycle them for you. Do your own research to see what’s available near you, and the good thing is you don’t have to do it very often, just save up your soft plastics and then hand them off to be recycled. This is an awesome way to be more eco-friendly and to help keep plastics out of the ocean and landfills.
