With standout rookie running back Antonio Gibson still on the sidelines, Washington Football Team turned to a former Pro Bowler in an attempt to boost their running game. According to multiple reports, Washington added veteran Lamar Miller to their roster on Wednesday.

Miller, who spent the better part of the 2020 season on the Chicago Bears’ practice squad, has to go through COVID-19 protocols before the signing becomes official.

Washington has been dealing with multiple injuries in the backfield in recent weeks and only have offseason acquisitions Peyton Barber and J.D. McKissic as reliable options on the position. Miller will probably serve as an insurance policy if one of the two gets hurt but is expected to get some carries regardless.

Lamar Miller played only five snaps of football since his Pro Bowl season with Houston Texans in 2018. He tore his ACL in the preseason game in 2019 and suffered several setbacks that prevented him play a major role on a team.

After sitting out the entire 2019, Miller signed with New England Patriots early in the offseason but got released after less than a month. He joined the Bears in October, making an appearance in Week 10 against Minnesota Vikings when he caught two passes for six yards.

Miller rushed for 5,864 yards and 32 touchdowns so far in his NFL career while also making 209 catches for 1,565 yards and eight TDs.
