We all love the idea of learning a new language, but in reality, it can be a lot harder than you think. It’s easy to lose motivation when you feel like you are not making the progress you expected, but there are a number of ways to keep momentum and maximize your learning experience.

Watch TV

The first thing you can do to help improve your language learning is to watch TV shows in the desired language. Of course, at first, you’ll probably need the help of subtitles to understand what’s going on, but nonetheless, your familiarity with the language will increase and it will help you gain knowledge of natural expressions and accents.

Listen to Podcasts

Another excellent tip is to start listening to podcasts in your new language. There are a huge variety of foreign language or learning podcasts available, no matter what your current level. You can listen to them on your way to work, while cooking dinner, or getting dressed in the morning!

Little by Little

Our next tip is to keep your learning to the “little by little” approach. If you expect to learn the whole language in a week, you’ll of course be disappointed. Slow and steady wins the race, learning a new word or phrase every day.

Be Bold

And finally, our most important tip is: be bold. Confidence can make a huge difference to your learning progress. Don’t be afraid of people laughing at your accent—laugh along with them, and keep trying. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. That’s how you learn.
