If you’ve been spending the past several months social distancing, you may be feeling frustrated by your hair which, in the absence of being able to go out to a salon, just keeps getting longer and longer. But you don’t just have to watch as your hair grows down to your knees; you can totally cut it yourself at home! Here are some tips.

Get Help

The hardest part of cutting your own hair is not being able to see the back of it. If you’re lucky enough to be living with somebody else during this pandemic, enlist them to help you, even if it’s just to even things out once you’re almost done.

Start Small

The age-old adage about cutting hair is true: you can always cut off more hair, but you can’t undo the cutting you’ve already done. So when you cut your own hair, start by just taking off a centimeter or two.

Don’t Be Overambitious

If you’re used to going to the salon for your haircuts, you may like to get complicated styles with lots of layering and complex haircutting techniques. Unfortunately, it’s not totally likely that you’ll be able to replicate these techniques yourself. Instead, try to settle for something simple, like snipping off your dead ends.
