This Venice Bookstore Is Italy’s Most Magical Reading Spot

The floating city of Venice is one of the most romantic spots in the world, but things can get a little bit tricky when water starts pouring from the canals and flooding everything in sight.

That didn’t stop owners of Libreria Acqua Alta from opening a bookstore in this city and coming up with creative ways to protect it from rising waters.

All of the books on this whimsical property are piled into waterproof bins, bathtubs, canoes, and a full-size gondola. By storing them this way, owner Luigi Frizzo came up with a perfect way to protect his impressive collection – and managed to create one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world at the same time.

Libreria Acqua Alta, aka the “bookstore of high water”, is located in close proximity to St. Mark’s Square. It’s a little bit difficult to find, but once you’re there – you’ll never want to leave.

It’s one of the most picturesque places you’ll ever walk into, and we won’t judge you if you spend hours sitting by the “fire escape” which opens directly onto a canal at the back of the shop.
