Ask yourself this: when was the last time you sat down and wrote something (anything!) by hand? Now try recalling the last time you received a carefully written note or a handwritten, mail delivered, letter. It might not be intuitive these days to take a step back from the keyboard or phone, but the benefits of letter writing shouldn’t be overlooked! In fact, numerous studies have shown that handwriting letters and notes enhance cognition, creativity, and even social skills.

It can also be an aesthetic activity. Writing a letter using unique stationery and carefully chosen writing tools, makes for a better, more personal, experience. Sleepy Bee Studio might just inspire you to put pen to paper. Based in Cambridge, UK, the independent stationery brand offers premium stationery and delicate paper gifts.

The brainchild of husband and wife duo Gavin and Charlie, the brand also promotes sustainability, will all of their printed material manufactured by a UK company certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®), an international organization dedicated to promoting responsible management of the world’s forests. They also make sure their products are wrapped in tissue rather than plastic and are delivered using a recycled hard-back envelope or a recyclable cardboard box, meaning no further waste is produced.

The stationery has been designed based on a theme, with the first four themes inspired by the city of Cambridge, where the duo’s studio is located. One particular product they offer which caught our attention is their line of Flexible Sealing Wax. Created using a combination of real wax and resin, it adds a regal touch to any envelope.

In an interview with the Printed blog, Charlie touched on her sources of inspiration, explaining that the list is endless. “I have got so many lists of ideas in notebooks and on my phone. It’s tricky to keep up,” she relayed. “As I’m working from home now, I’ll be working but also thinking about the next thing I’d like to do. Gav usually gets these ideas shot at him in very quick succession the second he walks through the door!”
