The Game Awards 2024 are fast approaching, set to take place on Thursday, December 12, at 7:30 PM EST. This year’s event, marking the 10th anniversary of The Game Awards, promises an exciting showcase of the best in gaming, with new game announcements, performances, and trailers. The event will be streamed across various platforms, including YouTube, Twitch, TikTok, and Twitter, allowing fans worldwide to tune in (4:30 p.m. PT / 7:30 p.m. ET / 12:30 a.m. GMT).
Expect Surprises
Hosted by Geoff Keighley at the Peacock Theater in LA, this 10th Anniversary of the event promises to be a special one, packed with surprises. Encouraging viewers to expect the unexpected, Keighley told Variety “I always say, people get excited to see one thing because they know it exists — but what about all those things that you don’t know exist? That’s what’s kind of fun. We always see the fake lists online of, ‘All these things are getting announced.’ And it’s just because those are things people know exist. And I’m like, but, what if there’s a whole set of other things out there?”
In the highly competitive Game of the Year category, titles like Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, Black Myth: Wukong, and Metaphor: ReFantazio are among the top contenders. Alongside this, a variety of categories will highlight the achievements of the year in gaming, such as Best Game Direction, Best Multiplayer, and Best Roleplaying Game. Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth and Black Myth: Wukong have particularly stood out, earning multiple nominations across different categories.
Excitement Builds
Other anticipated moments include the announcement of the Most Anticipated Game, where Death Stranding 2 and Grand Theft Auto 6 are the frontrunners. Fans can also expect exciting new reveals from top studios, with exclusive previews and first looks at upcoming titles that are sure to make waves in the gaming world.
The Game Awards 2024 will also recognize outstanding performances with nominees for Best Performance, including Briana White (Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth) and Melina Juergens (Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2). The event continues to highlight the growing importance of accessibility in gaming with the Innovation in Accessibility award, alongside categories for Best Score and Music, Best Art Direction, and Best Indie Game.
