]]> If you’re a fan of tattoos and piercings, then you’ll find that summer is a challenging time. While there’s no better season to show off your ink and hardware, summer is also the worst possible time to get a new body mod. Here’s an explanation as to why.

First, new tattoos are very sensitive to the sun, which means you have to be able to completely avoid the sun if you get one on a visible part of your body. When they’re healing, you also can’t put sunscreen on them, so the only option is total avoidance, which is pretty dang hard in the sunny summer.

Beyond that, new tattoos and piercings have to be kept out of water – swimming pools, oceans, seas, etc. – until they’re completely healed. For tattoos, that’ll take around two to four weeks, which isn’t that bad, but with piercings, that healing time is much longer: from three months on the low side up to a full year.

So unless you’re okay with missing out on all water activities during your summer, it’s best to abstain from getting tattoos and piercings in the summertime, as hard as it is.

But on the plus side? This forces you to wait on your new tattoo and piercing ideas, meaning that by the time you get around to actually doing them, you can feel more confident that you really want them.

Eat Breakfast

If you’re afraid of needles or have low pain tolerance, getting a tattoo may make you feel a little light-headed. To avoid fainting, make sure to eat a healthy meal and drink water before you go in for your tattoo.

Bring a Friend

Having a supportive friend along to hold your hand during your tattoo can be a great help, but don’t bring more than one person as it may get a bit too rowdy and crowded.

Breathe

All pain is temporary, and tattoos are no exception. No matter how much it may hurt, breathing through the pain will help you get through it.

Start Small

Even if you have sleeve dreams, try to get something small for your first tattoo. It’ll be quick and easy and you can always go bigger later on. That way, you don’t have to dread an hours-long session as your first tattooing experience.

]]> Tattoos have become so popular nowadays, we have a feeling they’re everywhere. That’s exactly why it’s hard for tattoo artists to come up with something new and create a unique style that’ll make them stand out among others. Min Zumi, however, doesn’t have that problem.

This tattoo artist who works in Authentink studio in Sydney, Australia, has developed a distinctive style of creating tattoos that look like sewn-on patches. Zumi’s ink art is so intricate and realistic you’ll have a hard time believing these “patches” aren’t actually sewn to the skin.

“The fine details are an effect consisting of thin lines of varying colors and shades which create the illusion of threads sewn onto the skin. The intricate design is what makes my tattoos unique and delicate,” the artist said in an interview with Bored Panda, adding that this process requires a lot of planning and concentration but for him, that is part of the fun.

Zumi needed years of hard work and dedication to research and master this skill in order to offer these cool permanent patches to his clients.
