Thanks to the internet, the entire world knowledge is available at any moment, and people who are interested in living a healthy lifestyle can easily learn everything about nutrition and exercise. The most basic tips for being healthy include eating healthily, getting plenty of exercise, and getting enough sleep.

But when it comes to getting enough sleep, are we getting too obsessed with it? Is it really necessary to sleep as much as we can and can sleeping too much have the opposite effect of what we want?

The optimal amount of sleep for adults is seven to nine hours per night. Just like the lack of sleep can lead to various physical and mental health problems, similar can happen if you sleep too much. Sleeping for 10 or more hours every day will actually leave you feeling tired, anxious, and forgetful.

Does this mean that you need to stress about the exact amount of sleep you’re getting every night? Not really. You probably have a wake-up schedule already, depending on your daily activities, so all you need to do is adjust the time you go to bed in the evening. Give your body enough time to rest and enjoy the benefits of proper sleep.

Do you ever find yourself wanting to take a short nap that will refresh and energize you but end up sleeping longer than you wanted which leads to troubles falling asleep in the evening? Resting when you feel the need for it can be crucial for health and well-being, but remember that long naps during the day can mess up your sleep during the night. Here’s how to take a nice nap that won’t do that.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B9JTnUxJMt_/

Take a Short Nap

Set an alarm that won’t let you nap for more than 15-30 minutes. If you sleep longer than that, you’ll probably feel groggy after waking up. Shorter naps are great for recharging and will leave you ready for the rest of your day.

Dark and Quiet

It’s important to turn off the lights and sounds that disrupt sleep. Take only 15 or 20 minutes for your nap, but do it right. If there’s noise or light that you can’t turn off, consider using an eye mask and earplugs to do the job.

Nap Early

If you nap before 3 p.m., it’s unlikely that your nap will affect the quality of your sleep during the night. If this is impossible for you, adjust the time of the nap to your own schedule but try to do it as early as you can.

Heatwaves in the summertime can be harsh. If you live in the area where lockdown is still active, it’s probably even harder to deal with the hot summer weather. One of the common problems people have is not being able to sleep well and there’s one drink that can help you with that.

Staying cool during the day is less of a challenge. You can refresh by drinking water and wearing loose clothes, but when the nighttime comes, it gets a bit more tricky. Opening the windows will let the noise (and mosquitos) in, but sweating through the night is definitely not acceptable. The solution may be drinking a warm beverage before bed.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B6Xg7sPlNWT/

The idea can seem weird at first. When you’re hot, your instincts tell you to drink something cold to cool down, right? Turns out, drinking something hot in the evening is actually the key if you want to survive summer heatwaves. This was backed up by Ollie Jay, a University of Ottawa researcher who conducted a series of experiments to see what effect hot drinks have on body temperature. He and his team discovered that hot beverages result in “a lower amount of heat stored inside your body,” and can help cool you down. Now that you know that, try it yourself!

Have you noticed that during the warmer months you have a harder time falling and staying asleep than in the winter? Falling asleep when it starts to get hot outside and the sun sets later is more difficult. If you’re curious as to why that is and want to work on ways to sleep better during the summer, keep reading.

Hot Temperatures

Falling asleep and getting REM sleep is more difficult when you’re overheated. Before you head to bed, turn down the air conditioner and use a lighter blanket during the summer months.

Moving the Clock

With the days longer and the sun setting later, your circadian rhythm can be thrown off making it hard to fall asleep and get a good night’s sleep. Prepare for daylight’s savings time by going to bed and waking up a half-hour earlier than usual leading up to the time change.

Seasonal Allergies

The warmer months bring on a whole new set of seasonal allergies which make it difficult to breathe and sleep well. Talk to your doctor about allergy medication and make some changes around your home like sleeping with the window closed to relieve your symptoms.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B-0wjKvj40j/

Summer Vacation

When you’re on vacation you want to use all hours of the day to explore new things, but while you’re doing this you’re interrupting your sleep. Waking up for a sunrise yoga retreat or staying up all night to star gaze affects your sleep, especially if you’re in a country with a different time zone. While on vacation, try your best to maintain your normal sleep schedule to make the transition back into your daily life easier.

People who don’t need an alarm to wake up in the morning can consider themselves pretty lucky. According to Each Night, there are numerous benefits to being a natural early riser and here are some of them.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B78DuBBl5wU/

Feeling More Rested

People who naturally wake up tend to feel more rested during the day than those who rely on an alarm. When an alarm wakes you at the set time, your body may not be ready to wake up yet which may leave you a bit more tired throughout the day.

Better Mood

People who get up naturally tend to have a better mood, higher self-confidence and use their time more productively. They are even more motivated to stay active than people waked up by an alarm.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B8BNUBdH7tG/

Healthy Choices

People who naturally wake up typically choose healthier food more often, especially for breakfast. They are more likely to regularly exercise, too.

If you’re feeling bad for needing an alarm to wake you up, know that you can actually train yourself to become a morning person. You need to go to sleep seven to nine hours before you need to wake up and find just the right amount of sleep for you, and your body will wake up around the same time every morning.

Falling asleep in front of your favorite Netflix show is a habit that can be hard to break. But how bad is it really? If you’ve been thinking about giving up your nightly TV sessions, here’s what you should know about them.

TV Light

Your body is pretty good at following the patterns of light and darkness that naturally occur throughout the day. When it gets dark, your body starts releasing hormones that make you sleepy as a signal that you should go to bed and get some rest. Exposure to artificial light can mess with this. Big time. It will be more difficult for you to fall asleep, and if that’s not enough, your sleep quality will be affected by the working TV if you didn’t turn it off.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B1gWV7NnLtm/

Sound

Not all sounds are bad for your sleep, but sounds that come from the TV are something you should avoid. Instead, you can choose something soothing like ambient sounds, white noise, or even a podcast, as long as its volume is not too high.

During recent years, we started picking up many great things from the Scandinavians. From minimalism to hygge, it seems that all the good things that have been trendy later come from northern Europe. That’s why we believe this idea deserves a chance. We’re talking about having separate blankets or duvets on your king-sized bed that you share with a loved one. It could seriously change your life!

https://www.instagram.com/p/BrkzAlgloav/

For many people, sharing one big blanket means that they end up fighting over it all night long. That’s not really an appropriate environment for a good night’s sleep, but you probably haven’t considered the most obvious alternative.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B2Kj8sNFTss/

The idea of having two separate smaller blankets for sleeping on a king-sized bed with your partner might seem odd at first, but if you just give it a chance, you’ll see that you’ll both sleep so much better. Perhaps one of you turns all night while the other one lays still, or one is always hot when the other one is cold… Whatever your particular case is, two blankets instead of one will help you sleep better and keep you happy and in love. It’s worth a shot!

Scientist say that adults need between 7 and 8 hours of sleep every night, but many people still doubt this. If you’re able to function with five hours of sleep per night, it still doesn’t mean your body is not suffering.

Sleep deprivation can have some serious consequences to your health, and you may not see them immediately. This is why you need to get eight hours of sleep every night.

Sleep helps your memory

If you’re sleep-deprived, you’ll have a harder time remembering things. Sleep contributes to our creative thinking and long-term memory, so if you want to help your brain create new memories, you need to sleep regularly. Also, if you don’t get enough sleep, your brain releases chemicals that signal hunger. This can make you eat more and eventually gain weight.

People who don’t need an alarm to wake up in the morning can consider themselves pretty lucky. According to Each Night, there are numerous benefits to being a natural early riser and here are some of them.

For many people, sharing one big blanket means that they end up fighting over it all night long. That’s not really an appropriate environment for a good night’s sleep, but you probably haven’t considered the most obvious alternative.
