]]>It’s always tempting to reach for the dryer or straighteners to achieve a slick styled look. However, too much heat can actually damage hair. Always make sure you’re using heat protection spray, and try to reduce the heat or the amount of heat styling. Embrace the natural look!
Rough synthetic material pillow cases can be very harsh on hair and cause damage which leads to frizz, meaning risk of frizz even while sleeping! It’s definitely a worthy investment to get some silk pillow cases which are much gentler on our delicate locks.
Similarly to pillow cases, rough towels aren’t the best material for hair. This is so much worse when towels are used to rub against hair, as this causes loads of breakage and therefore frizz. Instead use a microfiber hair wrap, as this will gently and quickly dry hair.

]]>If you’re growing your hair, you won’t want to hear this, but it’s impossible to avoid. The truth is, if your hair is split at the ends, dry, and damaged, it won’t grow quickly or steadily in this state. Damage can travel up the hair, from the tip to the root, so that it can start to feel like despite months of hard work, your hair is hardly growing at all. Go to the hair salon and explain that you’re growing it – your stylist will take an inch or two off the bottom, leaving your strands feeling refreshed and healthy.
Store bought hair masks often contain silicones and sulfates, which may make your hair feel glossy, but in fact offer little in terms of genuine hair health. Make your own mask, by whisking the whites of two eggs into half a cup of melted coconut oil. Add one tablespoon of honey, and one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, blend these ingredients into the mix. Apply to damp hair, leave for as long as possible, and then rinse.
If you’re applying a mask or conditioner, increase the potency by wrapping your coated hair in plastic, such as clingfilm. Doing this means that the heat from your scalp activates the ingredients in the mask, allowing them to penetrate deeper into each hair. Wrapping also lets you go about your chores and daily activities, without dripping conditioner all over your house.

]]>Comfortable and relatively easy to use, sleep-in rollers have the advantage of being in for eight hours, leading to more defined, longer-lasting results. It may take a while to get the hang of wrapping your hair around each roller (make sure to comb out your hair before you start). If you use them when your hair is slightly damp, the results will be even more impressive. After you remove them in the morning, use a little hairspray to set them.
This technique requires shoulder-length hair or longer. Once you’ve washed your hair, let it dry until it’s just a little damp (you can smooth in some curl crème or serum while it dries). Then, tie it in a loose ponytail, using a silk-based scrunchie to be gentle to your hair. Twist strands of the ponytail (around one inch thick) around your fingers, then use a grip to clip the twisted strand to your head. Repeat until all of your hair has been twisted and clipped. Allow it to dry naturally, and then carefully remove the clips and ponytail. Again, use a little hairspray to set if you wish.
Buy (or make) strips of cotton that are at least two inches longer than your hair length. You will need between eight and twelve. Take a rag and twirl a section of hair (about one inch thick) around the length of the rag, leaving about an inch of the rag free at the top of the twist. When all the hair is twisted around, use the last inch of the rag to tie it to the top one, so the hair is secure. Repeat, and leave for at least an hour, before untying the rags and shaking out your curls.

]]>For thick curly hair, deep hydrating conditioner is your friend. Keep an eye out for natural oils like almond oil, coconut oil, and argan oil. These ingredients will keep your hair shiny and soft and help fight frizz to help your curls keep their natural shape.
If your hair is straight and fine, you can look for volumizing conditioners to help give it body. Proteins, keratin, and biotin will help strengthen your strands to give them more thickness. Some conditioners have polymers added to plump your hair up without weighing it down.
If your hair is dry, damaged, or bleach-treated, look for silicones in your conditioner. These are a good option for straighter dry hair as they will add shine and smoothness but may take the shape out of curls. If you prefer natural products, you can buy plant oil-based conditioners.

]]>Argan oil is arguably one of the most beneficial and popular oils for your hair. It’s insanely hydrating, making it a great choice if you have dull or dry hair. You can add this oil to the ends of your hair to bring moisture back and prevent breakage.
If you’re looking for scalp care, jojoba oil is a great option. It’s very effective at healing dry scalp and dandruff, and if you use it regularly, you can see a great improvement. Because jojoba oil is usually used to heal the scalp, it can also really help with speeding up hair growth!
Coconut oil is like the holy grail of hair oil. It can be used all over the hair, from the scalp to the tips. It strengthens the hair by preventing protein loss in the hair. You can apply coconut oil as a hair mask before you wash it to protect it from damage when it’s wet.

]]>The cut is all about creating volume with clever layering that gives body and movement. Originating in Korea, the style has spread around the world thanks, in part, to TikTok.
The key to achieving the look is to cut wispy layers, particularly around the face. This gives the hair a lightweight, feathery appearance which is where the “air cut” derives its name. Running your fingers through your tresses will give you that Farah Fawcett feel!
Another win for the air cut is that is works on pretty much every hair type. Limp hair will benefit from the volume that the layers create, and thick hair will have more movement because it is not as weighed down. Using a volumizing spray and some velcro rollers will help achieve that bounce.
Just remember that this style looks best with regular maintenance, so make sure to visit your stylist every six weeks for a trim.

]]>Believe it or not, not all water is made equally. It may feel that way when opening the faucet, but “hard water build-up” could be the reason that your scalp seems like Flake City. Here are some tips to banish the build-up.
Hard water is caused by an excessive amount of calcium and magnesium being present in the liquid. While this can aid in receiving your daily nutrient intake, it’s not so great for your hair. The easiest way to prevent this is to install a filter that will remove these minerals and turn your water from hard to soft.
Water filters are the first choice, but they’re not always an option, particularly if traveling. A good clarifying shampoo is something you can throw in your bag. There are several shampoos on the market designed specifically to clear water build-up, but be careful if you have colored hair as the mineral strippers can be harsh.
Hard water messes with the pH balance of your hair, but this can be corrected through acidity. A popular DIY remedy is to make a rinse using apple cider vinegar. Combine one part vinegar to five parts water and place it in a spray bottle. Spray your scalp and work the formula into your ends, leaving it to sit for five minutes before rinsing.

]]>Effortless waves? Hair with so much volume that we can barely hear over it? Sign us up! Luckily, the sassy style is easy enough to achieve without having to locate a time machine.
Toronto-based hairstylist, Jen, has shown just how simple it can be in a video posted on Instagram. Follow these steps if you’re looking for luscious locks.
Jen recommends starting with the front section first. Whether you have curtain bangs or not, place your brush under the area of hair by your forehead and blow dry forwards. When you’re done, you want to place the dryer below and blow dry your bangs away from your face.
Once that section is dry, twist the hair into a pin curl and secure it atop your head using a pin or hair clip. This will help achieve that voluminous swoop we’re after.
Roughly dry the rest of your hair until it is around 80% dry. Using a large round brush, dry the roots of your hair and make your way to the ends. For an extra bouncy look, wrap the ends around the brush to create an inward-facing curl.
Focusing on the crown of your hair, you again want to blow dry forward. The idea is to dry the hair in the opposite direction in which it falls to achieve maximum volume. Continue doing this with the rest of the hair.

]]>Cooler shades were definitely on trend during the cold months, but the warmer weather is giving us an excellent reason to warm up our hair color too!
One of the best things about summer is its long days. There’s nothing quite like finishing work while it’s still light out and getting to enjoy the sunset (perhaps with a cocktail in hand). This look is inspired by that golden light that envelopes everything just before the sun goes down and makes the world seem more magical.
Metallic rose is rose gold’s cooler older cousin. Blonde undertones with a pastel-pink colored toner are used to achieve this effect and to say that we’re drawn to it like a magnet is an understatement!
Who said blondes get to have all the fun? Balayage was all the rage last season and it’s definitely continuing into summer. For brunettes who enjoy their dark tresses, that doesn’t mean they have to miss out on the trend. Keeping highlights in the caramel and chestnut family will make sure the light is reflected at every angle.
