Whether you’re packing a meal to take on a weekend adventure or want to take your own lunch to work, you want your food to be fresh and easy to access, and you don’t want things looking messy. Here are some tips for you to get your lunch bag in order that are good for the planet too.

Start With a Bento Box

Gone are the days when making a packed lunch meant using endless plastic freezer bags to store all of your goodies in. Bento boxes are the new lunch boxes of choice that offer separate compartments for all the parts of your meal. Even better, you can simply wash the box up after use and use it again tomorrow.

Go for a Cutlery Case

Who needs breakable plastic cutlery when you can take reusable cutlery made from a natural material? Cute color-coordinated cutlery in a matching case means you can find your utensils easily while being sustainable in style. Multiple family members can each have their cutlery in a different color, and you’ll know exactly whose is whose.

Add a Cooler Pouch

Finally, don’t let your cold food spoil on a warm day. Store it in a handy cooler pouch to keep it fresh and tasty.

Is it rice? Is it quinoa? Is it a grain? Couscous confuses people everywhere. What exactly is it? Well, couscous is actually a form of pasta—it’s just made in very tiny granules! Although the makeup of couscous might be confusing, there’s no doubt that it’s a delicious side dish to many meals. Here are some of the best foods and dishes to pair with couscous!

Stew

One of the most classic pairings with couscous is stew. Any hearty, meaty, saucy dish mixed with some freshly cooked couscous is really soul food. The light and fluffy texture of the couscous mixed with the heavy meat and vegetables that were slowly roasted in a delicious sauce is a combo that is just so heavenly.

Roasted Vegetables

Another incredible pairing with couscous is simply roasted veggies. Season them however you like and then serve atop a mound of couscous. All that’s left is to drizzle your favorite sauce or dressing on top and you have a five-star tasting meal!

Kebabs

There’s little that compares to the taste of meat grilled on skewers. Somehow, it just hits the spot every time. The best part? The smoky flavor of the kebabs from the grill is perfectly balanced when you pair it with a side of couscous.

Food safety is now more important than ever during the pandemic, and there are some basic rules that’ll help you hand food safely. Check out and remember these important healthy habits that are often overlooked.

Check Your Fridge Temperature

Temperatures between 40 °F and 140 °F are perfect for bacterial growth, so check that your fridge is working properly every once in a while. Fridge temperature should be at or below 40 °F to keep the food safe.

Cleaning Tools

We often forget that the cleaning tools in our kitchen, like sponges and dishrags, are actually one of the dirtiest things in our house. They’re an ideal breeding ground for bacteria, so make sure to clean and replace them on a regular basis.

Wash Reusable Bags

It’s great that you’re using eco-friendly grocery bags, but make sure to wash them after every use or at least once a week in order to prevent the spread of bacteria.

Don’t Leave Food Out Too Long

This one is a bit obvious, yet most people forget to properly store food such as cooked meals, sliced fruits and veggies, or leftovers. Make sure to store these safely in the fridge and don’t leave them on the kitchen counter for too long.

The Holiday season is that time of the year when we all love to celebrate and prepare large meals and feasts for our family. This year, try to adopt these sustainable habits in order to reduce food waste during this festive season.

Plan the Menu

Good organization is the key when it comes to reducing waste and the first step in organizing your holiday celebration is to create a menu. A detailed list of all meals you plan to prepare for the holidays will help you create a list of ingredients you need to buy.

Use What You Have

Maybe you already have some of the ingredients lying around your kitchen or pantry, so make sure to use those first.

Create a Shopping List

The best tip for smart shopping is to create a detailed list of ingredients you need to buy. Once you go to the supermarket try to stick to the list and only buy things you know you’ll be using.

Use leftovers

Even if you plan everything right, chances are you’re still going to have some leftover food. Instead of throwing it out, you can freeze the leftover food or repurpose it in other recipes.

Isn’t it annoying to be unable to scrape out Nutella out of the jar when there’s only a little bit left? Next time you finish a jar of your favorite spread, use these three tips to get the most out of the remaining content.

Make a Beverage

Simply add milk (dairy or non-dairy), close the lid, and shake the jar really well. After a few minutes, you will get a sweet, delicious, beverage! You can add warm milk to make the content melt faster and to get a warm drink.

Make Oatmeal

Use the nearly-empty Nutella jar to make overnight oats. Put all the ingredients in and leave in the fridge overnight. By the time you’re ready to consume it, the content will melt together and the flavor will be amazing. This is an effortless way to get a delicious breakfast ready for you in virtually no time.

You can use the same tricks to use up the almost-finished jar of peanut butter or some other spread. Speaking of peanut butter, it’s also a good idea to give the jar to your dog and they will lick the remaining spread off (but make sure not to do that with chocolate as it’s dangerous for dogs).

Potato salad is a summer staple that goes great with barbecue. It’s pretty simple to make but you can easily make a mistake that will turn it into an average salad. Here’s how to make sure your potato salad is perfect every single time.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bx0BitdBFCf/

The Right Potatoes

The type of potatoes you use will determine the texture of your salad. Pick Yukon gold or red potatoes if you want them to stay firm and blend nicely with a creamy dressing. If you want something starchier that will partially absorb the dressing, go with Russets.

Salt the Water

Your potatoes will be so much tastier if you add salt to the water you’re boiling them in! While boiling, they will infuse all the flavor from the water. Adding salt to the salad later simply won’t have the same effect.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CB5ZsGOJ-Kj/

Cut Evenly

It’s important to put in some extra effort and make sure your potatoes are cut evenly. This will help them cook consistently and the result will be a perfectly cooked, delicious salad.

If one of your New Year’s resolutions was to eat healthier and you still haven’t made any progress by the middle of March, you definitely need a few easy tips to make the process easier. Here are three simple rules you can follow if you want to start eating healthier today.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B9Taj4Dp8-l/

Include Fresh Veggies

One way to make sure you’re eating healthier is to include plenty of vegetables in your meals, especially green, leafy veggies like kale, spinach, lettuce, cabbage, etc.

Choose Healthy Fats

Make sure you’re using healthy fats when you’re cooking and use them wisely because they add a lot of calories to every meal. Cold-pressed olive oil is always a good idea, and bacon grease is always better than refined oils.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B9eOPPSpL24/

80:20 Rule

Healthy and balanced eating doesn’t mean you should be perfect 100% of the time. In fact, you need to allow yourself to be imperfect from time to time – 20% of your food can include processed but delicious meals you love so much and it’ll still make a good balance.

Pistachio Butter

This tasty nut butter is vibrant green and full of Vitamin B, which helps transform calories into energy. Pistachio lovers may enjoy eating this treat alone with a spoon. However, it also tastes delicious on toast and works well in a variety of dishes and sauces.

Sunflower Seed Butter

Also known as Sun Butter, this spread works as a perfect alternative for those who suffer from nut allergies. Plus, it has more magnesium per serving than most nut butter on the market.

Cashew Butter

If you have a sweet tooth, cashew butter is the one for you. It is naturally sweeter than most nut butter and is full of heart-healthy fatty acids. Swap cashew butter for peanut butter in your next pb and j.

Almond Butter

Almond butter tastes amazing spread onto apples, celery or bananas. It’s also a great source of protein and has an earthy, rich taste.

You may not like your green vegetables but you still want to eat them because they’re good for you — and we can absolutely relate to that! Nobody likes all food, and if you happen to not like the taste of green veggies, there’s a lot you can do to make them a part of your daily menu. Here’s how you can make sure you’re eating enough greens even if you don’t eat your salads every single day.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B6iExfPl8vk/

Smoothie

You can make a smoothie and basically trick yourself into consuming green veggies by adding some fruit to mask the taste. You can mix and match many different fruits and veggies and experiment until you find your favorite combos.

Chips

Did you know that you can make kale chips? Not only they’re delicious, but they’re also good for you and this will completely change the way you see snacks.

Pasta With Greens

If you can’t possibly eat your greens on the side, try adding them to pasta or other dishes you love. Even a regular sandwich will be more delicious and better for you if you add some lettuce to it.

Make sure you’re using healthy fats when you’re cooking and use them wisely because they add a lot of calories to every meal. Cold-pressed olive oil is always a good idea, and bacon grease is always better than refined oils.

80:20 Rule

Healthy and balanced eating doesn’t mean you should be perfect 100% of the time. In fact, you need to allow yourself to be imperfect from time to time – 20% of your food can include processed but delicious meals you love so much and it’ll still make a good balance.

Sometimes, there’s nothing better than a great peanut butter and jelly sandwich. But if you’re tired of peanut butter and are looking to try something different, here are some healthy and delicious nut butter options.

You may not like your green vegetables but you still want to eat them because they’re good for you — and we can absolutely relate to that! Nobody likes all food, and if you happen to not like the taste of green veggies, there’s a lot you can do to make them a part of your daily menu.

If we had to choose single food to have at home at all times, it would definitely be eggs. Eggs can be prepared in so many different ways and used for a variety of recipes, sweet and savory. Today, we bring you three amazing ways to make breakfast with eggs as the main course.

Vegetable Omelette

Slice up your favorite veggies or the ones you have at home at the moment, and your favorite seasonings, and make a delicious veggie omelet that’s a perfect breakfast solution for busy workdays.

Egg Muffins

Nothing beats the smell of fresh egg muffins spreading from the oven early in the morning. Just whisk a couple of eggs, and a little bit of milk, and add your favorite vegetables, sliced up. Pour into the muffin tray, bake for around 20 minutes, and enjoy.
