]]> The Met Ball, or Met Gala, formerly known as the Costume Institute Gala is known as the fashion event of the season and takes place on the first Monday of May. It has taken place every year since 1948 and was founded by Eleanor Lambert as a fundraiser for the institute. Tickets are heavily sought after by celebrities and various professionals, but the only way in is by an invite from the Vogue’s editor and chief, Anna Wintour.

Each year is a celebration of a new theme, in which the attendees often work with designers to create an inspired look that goes with the year’s theme. This year the theme celebrates Karl Lagerfeld; “Karl Lagerfeld: A line of Beauty”. He was a regular attendee at the Gala and was a creative director for the famous fashion house Chanel and Fendi.

On January 18th, Vogue announced that its 2023 hosts will be Penelope Cruz, Michaela Coel, Roger Federer, Dua Lipa, and of course, Anna Wintour, who will oversee the event.

The Met is a highly secretive and extremely sought-after event. All its guests must follow the rules of no phones and no social media. Additionally, on average, there are around 600 guests. The guest list is also highly secretive. We will only know who has been invited once they ascend up those steps.

]]> Stamp collecting used to be all the rage back in the day. Perhaps an older relative of yours has an impressive stamp collection, and now it’s stored away in a dusty box in the attic. Making a collage is a great way to repurpose these old stamps and showcase their beautiful designs.

Go for the same theme

One way to create a stamp collage is to find stamps that have the same theme—it could be butterflies, flowers, birds, or whatever else you like. Then stick them on a canvas, and you have a gorgeous piece of art.

Go for the same color

Another option is to select stamps that are in the same or similar colors to one another to create a tonal piece. An advantage of going for a monochromatic design is that it will look really visually striking on your wall from a distance. You can also have fun cutting your collage into different shapes and setting it against a colorful background.

Create a design

]]> Architecture and interior designer, Dmitry Reutov, is not one to shy away from color. One could argue that color, in fact, is the driving force behind his work.

One of his most celebrated projects, which also helped sky-rocket his career was a tropical interior for an apartment in New York, featuring different hues of colors – a design that was inspired by the traditional architectural elements of Mexico with its use of bright colors. The 55-square-metre space was designed for a young couple that commissioned the architect to create a vivid and moody space. 

“The two main elements that inspire me the most are nature and ancient architecture,” said Reutov, in an interview with Nueve 36am, “they are both magical. For example, a cactus is a type of cosmic and futuristic plant. In Russia, they do not grow unlike other countries where they actually do. In addition, I am fascinated by museums, Mexico’s and Morocco’s traditional architecture, their bright colors, bamboo forests, plus Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, and its cosmic landscapes.”

“For me, color is one of the most important, basic and inspiring interior design components,” says the architecture. “Color is able to change any room and make it what you want and dream about. Thanks to my experience, my perception of color has changed throughout time and I’ve started to incorporate more and more bright colors instead of going for standard shades.”

Adhering to the notion that design should evoke emotions, his projects are al about positive vibes. And ith most of us staying home these days, we could use a bit of color.

]]> Przemek Krawczyński’s lamps are much more than that. Made of gourd—a dried tropical fruit that originates in Senegal, Guinea, and Mali—they are intricately carved using precise measurements and specialized tools.

According to the Polish sculpture, the structure of dried gourd is more homogeneous than the structure of the standard wood, as it does not contain growth rings, fibers, or knots. When light passes through the thin layer of the gourd’s wood, it becomes red and orange. The result, more often than not, is magical.

Each one of a kind piece takes months to complete and includes many laborious stages. Krawczyński explains on his website that the first stage is skinning the gourd and cleaning the inside, after which he designs the patterns right away on the gourd, using previously applied grids.

“Sometimes the designing stage is the longest and the most difficult, but most of the time the carving and the drilling are the most labor-intensive,” he notes. “Once the pattern is designed I engrave the contours. The next steps is marking the place of every single hole and painting of the gourd.”

Krawczyński adds that his biggest sources of inspiration include fractal art, geometry, and all types of geometrical, harmonious patterns and constructions. “In my projects, I look for harmony and cohesion,” he writes. “I enjoy complicated, varied, and composite patterns; nothing about their arrangement is random.”

I started to work on Ailsa at the beginning of January 2019. The designing stage went surprisingly smoothly, therefore I would have never expected to finish it 12 months later. I was also unaware of what life would bring in 2019. Few days later my beloved wife Lena was diagnosed with a cancer disease. Lena loved the organic, floral design of the lamp and despite the disease and the tough time for us, she motivated me to work on it for the next few months to keep up appearances of normality. I think that I was able to continue working on the lamp, because the design was ready so it was “only” a physical work. In June, after less than 6 months of struggling, Lena passed away. She was 33 years old. This lamp is a kind of a symbol to me of how unpredictable life can be and what is the most important. The desktop must be large enough for all your needs (computer screen, mouse, keyboard, or other materials you need for work), and the chair you sit on should be comfortable AND not cause back problems later on.

Inspiration Board

If you have enough space, try to create an inspiration board that includes topics related to your work and the achievements you would like to have in the coming months.

Well, guess where I slept last night for the first time ever? And don't I look happier than a pig in muck to be on the spare beds mattress on the floor! It's smaller and lighter to lug down from the floor above but still more comfortable than the airbed would have been (though definitely not as swish as the bed that's coming for here.. I might share a little glimpse later.. it's going to be glorious (and a proper size.. a big lump like me has gotten very used to a super king… I've taken banisters out of rented properties before just to get my old mattress up the stairs.. my long suffering Pa has vowed never to help me lift it again.. it must weigh 150kg and is a very dead weight!). . The shutters that were the bane of my life for longer than I'd like to admit when I was unpinning and restoring them did a grand job of keeping the early morning sun out… And under the glow of the bedside lamps (plugged into an extension cable for the floor below!) cast a gorgeous glow against the blue walls.. during the day the room feels light and bright and elegant but as the night draws in its cosy, sumptuous and restful… I am bloomin' THRILLED! . I've still some bits of furniture to find for this room.. but I'm waiting for the bed to arrive to get a sense of space… And then to do a bit of hunting for some art… & then I think, finally, done! Thanks so much for all the lovely comments and messages! It is hugely touching and very much makes the graft this has taken all the sweeter! Happy Friday lovely bunch! . Ok, I know I said I was waiting for the bed to arrive for finishing touches but when something gorgeous (and cheap) rocks up on FB marketplace… Well, you can't watch it slip away.. so.. behold.. the new bureau for the bedroom.. complete with the last rose from the garden.. . From the very, very small amount I know about such things, I believe it's about the same age as the house which makes me happy.. I also love a bureau in a bedroom.. there's a romanticism around having a place to write late at night.. filling a diary or journal.. or a love letter perhaps.. not that I do any of the above, but that's not the point (do love letters even exist anymore.. it's all about swiping a screen and inappropriate pictures I'm lead to believe?).. It also means when I fold the desk bit out, for now, it becomes a beard oiling & grooming station that can all be easily stashed away! . It's a tricky spot for furniture with the window so near the wall and a doorway through to the party room (handy for late night Martini).. the previous owner had a huge bank of wardrobes along this wall and it meant you couldn't open the main door to the room and it hugely compromised the symmetry of the windows.. something I love.. with its angled top, this feels just right whilst and like it's always been in the house! Very happy indeed.. even if it is missing a few handles! Happy Sunday wonderful bunch.. Well, this is bath number 3 for Admirals.. I'm not in love with the exterior colour, but that's easily changed.. but for less than what I'd spend on a (pretty lairy!) night out I'm a very happy man! It's made of stone resin so is warmer than cast iron, and a bit lighter too (important given this has precisely 41 stairs to go up to the 2nd floor!).. it's a lot smaller than the last bath you saw me posing in but rather comfortable.. . I appreciate this picture is #instatosspottery of the highest order.. sanding bitumen does not for pretty pictures make and I was excited to share the bargain bath… And well, I needed a giggle after all the sanding.. check stories for outtakes.. think I finally nailed the classic legs in the air bath shot!… . But as I was laid there in the sunshine in my birthday suit.. I had a little brainwave… To the right of this picture, in the corner of the roof terrace there will one day (you know, once the house is finished) be a sort of outdoor living room… Well, what if I built a big corner bench/sofa thing.. and within one of the benches, there was a flip up lid.. that hid… A bath!!! . Through these doors will be the kitchen.. so plumbing will be near.. and it can literally drain away into the roof.. yesss! The kitchen will also be handy for bath time snacks and booze.. and the terrace gets the sun later than anywhere else.. remind me again why I'm spending so long creating a beautiful bathroom when I'm clearly going to be bathing out here all the time! ]]> As most of us remain home, treating ourselves to a nice, cozy environment makes all the difference. Cooking a tasty meal also makes a difference, amping up your day-to-day. Cook and author Skye McAlpine is here to inspire you to live a happier, prettier, and most importantly—tastier—life.

Based between London and Venice (when traveling is allowed, that is), McAlpine draws inspiration from both cities. “They’re such different cities and ways of life,” she stated once in an interview with Khoollect, “and I feel very lucky to have the contrast.”

According to McAlpine, while Venice is wonderfully dreamy, she’s also very much attracted to the bustle of London. “The theatre, the trendy restaurants, the shows and there are so many people doing exciting things,” she says.

And whilst there isn’t really where to travel to these days, scrolling through her Instagram page, and admiring her wonderful dishes is a treat in and of itself. A virtual vacation, if you will.

]]> The Met Ball, or Met Gala, formerly known as the Costume Institute Gala is known as the fashion event of the season and takes place on the first Monday of May. It has taken place every year since 1948 and was founded by Eleanor Lambert as a fundraiser for the institute. Tickets are heavily sought after by celebrities and various professionals, but the only way in is by an invite from the Vogue’s editor and chief, Anna Wintour.

Each year is a celebration of a new theme, in which the attendees often work with designers to create an inspired look that goes with the year’s theme. This year the theme celebrates Karl Lagerfeld; “Karl Lagerfeld: A line of Beauty”. He was a regular attendee at the Gala and was a creative director for the famous fashion house Chanel and Fendi.

On January 18th, Vogue announced that its 2023 hosts will be Penelope Cruz, Michaela Coel, Roger Federer, Dua Lipa, and of course, Anna Wintour, who will oversee the event.

The Met is a highly secretive and extremely sought-after event. All its guests must follow the rules of no phones and no social media. Additionally, on average, there are around 600 guests. The guest list is also highly secretive. We will only know who has been invited once they ascend up those steps.

]]> Stamp collecting used to be all the rage back in the day. Perhaps an older relative of yours has an impressive stamp collection, and now it’s stored away in a dusty box in the attic. Making a collage is a great way to repurpose these old stamps and showcase their beautiful designs.

Go for the same theme

One way to create a stamp collage is to find stamps that have the same theme—it could be butterflies, flowers, birds, or whatever else you like. Then stick them on a canvas, and you have a gorgeous piece of art.

Go for the same color

Another option is to select stamps that are in the same or similar colors to one another to create a tonal piece. An advantage of going for a monochromatic design is that it will look really visually striking on your wall from a distance. You can also have fun cutting your collage into different shapes and setting it against a colorful background.

Create a design

First of all, it just feels good. When you move your furniture around your room, you get the satisfaction of making a change and seeing things from a new perspective, and feeling like a fresh start.

]]> Architecture and interior designer, Dmitry Reutov, is not one to shy away from color. One could argue that color, in fact, is the driving force behind his work.

One of his most celebrated projects, which also helped sky-rocket his career was a tropical interior for an apartment in New York, featuring different hues of colors – a design that was inspired by the traditional architectural elements of Mexico with its use of bright colors. The 55-square-metre space was designed for a young couple that commissioned the architect to create a vivid and moody space. 

“The two main elements that inspire me the most are nature and ancient architecture,” said Reutov, in an interview with Nueve 36am, “they are both magical. For example, a cactus is a type of cosmic and futuristic plant. In Russia, they do not grow unlike other countries where they actually do. In addition, I am fascinated by museums, Mexico’s and Morocco’s traditional architecture, their bright colors, bamboo forests, plus Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, and its cosmic landscapes.”

“For me, color is one of the most important, basic and inspiring interior design components,” says the architecture. “Color is able to change any room and make it what you want and dream about. Thanks to my experience, my perception of color has changed throughout time and I’ve started to incorporate more and more bright colors instead of going for standard shades.”

Adhering to the notion that design should evoke emotions, his projects are al about positive vibes. And ith most of us staying home these days, we could use a bit of color.

]]> Przemek Krawczyński’s lamps are much more than that. Made of gourd—a dried tropical fruit that originates in Senegal, Guinea, and Mali—they are intricately carved using precise measurements and specialized tools.

According to the Polish sculpture, the structure of dried gourd is more homogeneous than the structure of the standard wood, as it does not contain growth rings, fibers, or knots. When light passes through the thin layer of the gourd’s wood, it becomes red and orange. The result, more often than not, is magical.

Each one of a kind piece takes months to complete and includes many laborious stages. Krawczyński explains on his website that the first stage is skinning the gourd and cleaning the inside, after which he designs the patterns right away on the gourd, using previously applied grids.

“Sometimes the designing stage is the longest and the most difficult, but most of the time the carving and the drilling are the most labor-intensive,” he notes. “Once the pattern is designed I engrave the contours. The next steps is marking the place of every single hole and painting of the gourd.”

Krawczyński adds that his biggest sources of inspiration include fractal art, geometry, and all types of geometrical, harmonious patterns and constructions. “In my projects, I look for harmony and cohesion,” he writes. “I enjoy complicated, varied, and composite patterns; nothing about their arrangement is random.”

I started to work on Ailsa at the beginning of January 2019. The designing stage went surprisingly smoothly, therefore I would have never expected to finish it 12 months later. I was also unaware of what life would bring in 2019. Few days later my beloved wife Lena was diagnosed with a cancer disease. Lena loved the organic, floral design of the lamp and despite the disease and the tough time for us, she motivated me to work on it for the next few months to keep up appearances of normality. I think that I was able to continue working on the lamp, because the design was ready so it was “only” a physical work. In June, after less than 6 months of struggling, Lena passed away. She was 33 years old. This lamp is a kind of a symbol to me of how unpredictable life can be and what is the most important. The desktop must be large enough for all your needs (computer screen, mouse, keyboard, or other materials you need for work), and the chair you sit on should be comfortable AND not cause back problems later on.

Well, guess where I slept last night for the first time ever? And don't I look happier than a pig in muck to be on the spare beds mattress on the floor! It's smaller and lighter to lug down from the floor above but still more comfortable than the airbed would have been (though definitely not as swish as the bed that's coming for here.. I might share a little glimpse later.. it's going to be glorious (and a proper size.. a big lump like me has gotten very used to a super king… I've taken banisters out of rented properties before just to get my old mattress up the stairs.. my long suffering Pa has vowed never to help me lift it again.. it must weigh 150kg and is a very dead weight!). . The shutters that were the bane of my life for longer than I'd like to admit when I was unpinning and restoring them did a grand job of keeping the early morning sun out… And under the glow of the bedside lamps (plugged into an extension cable for the floor below!) cast a gorgeous glow against the blue walls.. during the day the room feels light and bright and elegant but as the night draws in its cosy, sumptuous and restful… I am bloomin' THRILLED! . I've still some bits of furniture to find for this room.. but I'm waiting for the bed to arrive to get a sense of space… And then to do a bit of hunting for some art… & then I think, finally, done! Thanks so much for all the lovely comments and messages! It is hugely touching and very much makes the graft this has taken all the sweeter! Happy Friday lovely bunch! . Ok, I know I said I was waiting for the bed to arrive for finishing touches but when something gorgeous (and cheap) rocks up on FB marketplace… Well, you can't watch it slip away.. so.. behold.. the new bureau for the bedroom.. complete with the last rose from the garden.. . From the very, very small amount I know about such things, I believe it's about the same age as the house which makes me happy.. I also love a bureau in a bedroom.. there's a romanticism around having a place to write late at night.. filling a diary or journal.. or a love letter perhaps.. not that I do any of the above, but that's not the point (do love letters even exist anymore.. it's all about swiping a screen and inappropriate pictures I'm lead to believe?).. It also means when I fold the desk bit out, for now, it becomes a beard oiling & grooming station that can all be easily stashed away! . It's a tricky spot for furniture with the window so near the wall and a doorway through to the party room (handy for late night Martini).. the previous owner had a huge bank of wardrobes along this wall and it meant you couldn't open the main door to the room and it hugely compromised the symmetry of the windows.. something I love.. with its angled top, this feels just right whilst and like it's always been in the house! Very happy indeed.. even if it is missing a few handles! Happy Sunday wonderful bunch.. Well, this is bath number 3 for Admirals.. I'm not in love with the exterior colour, but that's easily changed.. but for less than what I'd spend on a (pretty lairy!) night out I'm a very happy man! It's made of stone resin so is warmer than cast iron, and a bit lighter too (important given this has precisely 41 stairs to go up to the 2nd floor!).. it's a lot smaller than the last bath you saw me posing in but rather comfortable.. . I appreciate this picture is #instatosspottery of the highest order.. sanding bitumen does not for pretty pictures make and I was excited to share the bargain bath… And well, I needed a giggle after all the sanding.. check stories for outtakes.. think I finally nailed the classic legs in the air bath shot!… . But as I was laid there in the sunshine in my birthday suit.. I had a little brainwave… To the right of this picture, in the corner of the roof terrace there will one day (you know, once the house is finished) be a sort of outdoor living room… Well, what if I built a big corner bench/sofa thing.. and within one of the benches, there was a flip up lid.. that hid… A bath!!! . Through these doors will be the kitchen.. so plumbing will be near.. and it can literally drain away into the roof.. yesss! The kitchen will also be handy for bath time snacks and booze.. and the terrace gets the sun later than anywhere else.. remind me again why I'm spending so long creating a beautiful bathroom when I'm clearly going to be bathing out here all the time! ]]> As most of us remain home, treating ourselves to a nice, cozy environment makes all the difference. Cooking a tasty meal also makes a difference, amping up your day-to-day. Cook and author Skye McAlpine is here to inspire you to live a happier, prettier, and most importantly—tastier—life.

Based between London and Venice (when traveling is allowed, that is), McAlpine draws inspiration from both cities. “They’re such different cities and ways of life,” she stated once in an interview with Khoollect, “and I feel very lucky to have the contrast.”

According to McAlpine, while Venice is wonderfully dreamy, she’s also very much attracted to the bustle of London. “The theatre, the trendy restaurants, the shows and there are so many people doing exciting things,” she says.

And whilst there isn’t really where to travel to these days, scrolling through her Instagram page, and admiring her wonderful dishes is a treat in and of itself. A virtual vacation, if you will.
