If you go through a lot of pasta sauce–or really anything that comes in small glass jars, you have hit the jackpot without even realizing it! There are so many ways to reuse these glass jars so that they are cute and sustainable. Here are five of our favorite ways to reuse old pasta sauce jars.

Food Storage Containers

Let’s be honest, buying new food storage containers hurts the wallet. They can be really expensive (especially if you choose to go for glass containers over plastic). Luckily, the jars you were planning on throwing away or recycling are perfect for storing leftovers. They are airtight, so your food won’t leak at all!

Juice Containers

If you like to make your own juices at home, these sauce jars are perfect for storing them! You can make a batch in bulk and save them in the fridge for the week.

Cups

Who said all of your cups have to match?? If you’re on a budget or just really passionate about reducing waste, use your leftover jars as cups!

Planters and Flower Vases

Using jars as planters or flower vases is such a cute way to make your decor a bit more rustic and cute. It will give a more “DIY” aesthetic and show off how much you care about the environment!

Pen Holder

There’s nothing worse than having a bunch of pens and not knowing where any of them are. Maybe they’re taking up space in your junk drawer, or scattered at the bottom of all your bags–but not anymore! Use a jar to store your pens neatly on your desk, so they always have a place and won’t get lost!

When we think of crafting we often think of it as child’s play, but actually, it has been proven to be an amazing way to relieve stress, insomnia, and depression. It also can be a way to make new friends and save items around the home that you otherwise would have thrown in the trash. Here are four crafts that you can make as an adult.

Painted Wine Bottle Vases

Who doesn’t love a glass of wine after a hard day’s work? But what do you do with the wine bottle when it’s empty? You put it in the trash, of course. But why not save them to paint and use them as vases? We’re sure there has been a time you received flowers and had nowhere to put them. Well, with your beautifully decorated wine bottles you will always have a place.

DIY Hanging Wall Shelf

All you need is a piece of wood and some macrame cord and a drill if you want to secure it to the wall. You can choose any wood you want and color. Make four small holes with a drill on each corner and then thread through the string, connect it to a macrame ring, and then put it onto a hook in the wall. Add some pretty plants or small books.

Recycled CD Coasters

We all have those CDs sitting in our living room collecting dust, so instead of throwing them away, why not cover them in fabric or paint them and make them coasters for your drinks? Add some stones, make them glossy or matt, whatever your design choice is, make it fun!

Fabric Covered Plant Pots

What can you do with all that leftover fabric you have from costumes you once made? Why not cover your plant pots with it? All you need is some plain plant pots, fabric, and mod podge and you will have a fantastic fabric-covered plant pot to brighten up your home.

Crafternoons are a great way to spend time with friends and get those creative juices flowing. All you’ll need are some arts and crafts materials, a few pals, and a couple of hours after work or at the weekend and you’ve got all the ingredients for a successful crafternoon!

The Materials

You don’t need anything fancy to get your craft on! Paints, coloring pencils, felt tips and pastels, colored paper, wool, felt, sequins, beads—whatever you can get your hands on or that you have lying around. Raiding your kids’ art supplies is also never a bad idea!

The Project

Pick a project or a theme as a blank piece of paper can be intimidating to even the most seasoned of artists. Check out Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok for easy craft and design project ideas or take votes on what the theme should be. You could even just explore colors and shapes.

The Intention

A crafternoon should be all about having fun. The conversation flows when your hands are busy and working on a creative task can be fantastic for de-stressing. Don’t worry about the outcomes, just focus on the experience and enjoy!

Stamp collecting used to be all the rage back in the day. Perhaps an older relative of yours has an impressive stamp collection, and now it’s stored away in a dusty box in the attic. Making a collage is a great way to repurpose these old stamps and showcase their beautiful designs.

Go for the same theme

One way to create a stamp collage is to find stamps that have the same theme—it could be butterflies, flowers, birds, or whatever else you like. Then stick them on a canvas, and you have a gorgeous piece of art.

Go for the same color

Another option is to select stamps that are in the same or similar colors to one another to create a tonal piece. An advantage of going for a monochromatic design is that it will look really visually striking on your wall from a distance. You can also have fun cutting your collage into different shapes and setting it against a colorful background.

Create a design

The sky is the limit when it comes to the designs you can create with postage stamps. For those more experienced artists, why not let your mind run free and try an elaborate design?

Every flower must grow through dirt, says the old saying. But Stephanie Redlinger’s flowers don’t abide by the rules. Made out of crepe paper, they take after their natural surroundings with the added bonus that they never wither away.

Based in Boulder, Colorado, Redlinger first paper flowers were her wedding bouquet and her husband’s boutonniere. But her botanical paper art isn’t only restricted to bouquets and includes flower crowns, mushrooms, and even wild berries that look good enough to eat.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B7_SgICBtnp/

“I do copious amounts of research on my subjects both before and during the making process,” explained Redlinger on her website, “preferably by studying live plants and flowers, but also from online image searches and combing through books and magazines.”

When she isn’t crafting paper flowers, Redlinger might be found working out in the garden (naturally!), joining her husband in chasing their two young kids and our dog around the house, or reading a good SciFi book.

Show her some love on Instagram (you know she deserves it!)

Now that the sun is shining, we want to spend as much time outside as possible. Since it’s warm enough outside, you can bring you arts and craft projects to your backyard or patio and really connect with nature. These five crafts are great to do with your kids and you can use the finished products as home decor pieces.

Sun Printing

Head to the beach or the woods and collect pinecones, leaves, seashells, and feathers, so you can create sun printing artwork. Make sure it’s a sunny day and put all of your collections on a light-sensitive paper and wait for the light to pick up on the silhouettes.

Tie-Dying

Use vegetables, plants, and fruit to tie-dye your clothes and sheets or you can buy a tie-dye kit from the store. Tie-dye is super trendy right now and we don’t expect it to go out of style anytime soon.

Kokedama Gardening

Gardening is a great way to reconnect with nature and this Japanese gardening technique wraps plants in moss instead of placing them in pots.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CDNVWlkJo_k/

Glass Art

If you love the colors of the ocean, head to the beach and collect sea glass for your next art project. There are tons of things you can create with it including jewelry, stepping stones for the garden, trays, or sculptures.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CC0LM1TlMYY/

Rock Art

Gather all of the rocks, stones, and pebbles from your garden and create cute saying or pictures on them with paint. When you finish, hide them on trails so other people can see your beautiful work.

Knitting is one of those hobbies that many people are curious about. Maybe you learned as a child and stopped or maybe it’s something you have always wanted to try. Knitting is very therapeutic and it’s very soothing to be able to create something with your hands. You don’t have to be crafty and you don’t have to be afraid to start. Just pick up the needles and start.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bo0i84ngaze/

Tips

Do not start knitting a scarf as one of your first pieces as it takes so long to finish and it will make you give up quickly. Instead, once you have mastered the basics of knitting try making a hat. This is far less time-consuming and your mistakes are less obvious. They are a little more complicated but you will learn as you go.

Don’t choose a project that will take a while to finish, give yourself a deadline to complete your first piece, maybe a birthday coming up or a trip you are taking.

The best place to buy your yarn is at a small local yarn store, where they will be able to help first-time knitters and advise you what to buy.

Buy yarn that is medium weight and read the labels to see what size needles to buy. Bamboo is great for first-timers as it stops the yarn from slipping and there’s less chance to drop the stitches.

Glass Art

If you love the colors of the ocean, head to the beach and collect sea glass for your next art project. There are tons of things you can create with it including jewelry, stepping stones for the garden, trays, or sculptures.
