Let’s set the scene: you’re in your cozy kitchen, and it’s time to whip up a delicious cocktail that’s going to impress your friends at tonight’s gathering. You’ve got the ingredients, the music playlist, and a touch of cocktail charisma. But the burning question remains—should you shake it or stir it? Here’s a quick guide to help you out.

Shaking

Shaking a cocktail is an energetic and dynamic process. It involves vigorously mixing the ingredients with ice in a cocktail shaker. The rapid motion chills the drink quickly and incorporates air, creating a frothy and slightly diluted concoction. Shaking is typically used for cocktails that contain citrus juices, egg whites, or ingredients that need thorough mixing and aeration.

Stirring

Stirring is a more gentle and controlled technique for mixing cocktails. It involves slowly and gracefully stirring the cocktail ingredients with ice using a long-handled bar spoon. This method maintains the drink’s clarity and minimal dilution while ensuring a precise temperature drop. Stirring is typically reserved for cocktails that consist of spirits and have a more delicate flavor profile.

Easy Tip

When in doubt, consider the texture and appearance you want to achieve. Shaking will create a frothier, cloudier drink while stirring maintains a clear and silky consistency.

Fall is the perfect time to take a break and enjoy a nice cocktail. Pumpkin flavored and spiced cocktails tend to take over during this time, but a very special purple gin might change this.

Empress 1908 Gin is a special small-batch gin made in Victoria on Vancouver Island, Canada. It’s known for its rich purple color, which is created naturally through the addition of butterfly pea blossoms. These pea blossoms are added post-distillation and infused into the gin. That’s what creates the vibrant purple shade, which in turn creates delectable purple cocktails. Here are a few to try.

Pineapple, Mint and Meyer lemon cocktail

This is more like a fruit cocktail in a glass and anyone who misses being in a tropical location this year will be transported to a beach when they sip it.

Empress 75

No Fall cocktail would be complete without cranberries. The Empress 75 mixes simple syrup, lemon juice, and sparkling wine for an effervescent treat.

1908 Swizzle

For a cocktail with a bitter edge, the 1908 hits the spot. To make this visually pleasing concoction you will need grapefruit juice, Gomme syrup, and some grapefruit bitters.

Everyone knows that Thanksgiving is all about the food and the feast. From turkey and stuffing to sweet potato casserole to cranberry sauce, the staples of the season are all on the table. Just like any celebration though, everyone typically has a drink in hand. This year, go above and beyond and make seasonally inspired cocktails for that finishing touch you’ve been looking for. Here are some ideas.

A Little Bit of Everything

This fall concoction really has it all. It gets most of its flavor from fresh fruits—pear, apple, cranberries, even pumpkin—and as a result, is incredibly healthy. It is wonderful because it is not a heavy drink either. The alcohol is just cider and white wine. This tangy drink is sure to complement any Thanksgiving meal.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CGJGF7aI8W0/

The Old Fashioned

Everyone loves a good smoky whiskey drink around the holiday season and this holiday is the perfect opportunity to try a seasonal twist on a classic favorite. In addition to the traditional bourbon with bitters, this drink adds more sweet flavors to complement the meal and tone down the strong whiskey. Honey, cinnamon, and a little bit of apple cider take the edge off.

Pomegranate Spritzers

For anyone that wants a bit more of a bold flavor, this cocktail calls for pomegranate, blueberries, and a variety of flavorful juices to add some pizazz to the drink. The alcohol suggested is white wine, prosecco to be specific, so this is a light and incredibly flavorful addition to any dinner.

Do you love cocktails, but you’re trying to stay on your diet? The good news is there are healthier ways to enjoy cocktails that cut down on the sugar and calories while increasing the nutrition in the drinks. Here’s how to enjoy cocktails while sticking to your diet.

Choose Mixers Carefully

Pick mixers for your liquors that are loaded with antioxidants or 100 percent fruit juice, instead of using soda. Another alternative is to mix sparkling water with liquors or wine for a drink that’s low in calories and will keep your thirst quenched.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BcgUbuVDFvU/

Bloody Mary For Antioxidants

The tomato-based drink is high in antioxidants and the next time you’re meeting the girlfriends for drinks, order a Bloody Mary instead of a mimosa. Try and get one that uses real tomatoes and not corn syrup or artificial colors.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CBq8k51FiEy/

Kombucha For Bubbly Drinks

The gut-friendly drink adds a bubbly touch to your cocktail while boosting your immune system.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CBYNZHklt47/

Add Real Fruit

In addition to making your cocktail taste fresh, real fruit like blood oranges, lemons, and tart cherries give you your vitamins and can be part of your recommended servings of fruit for the day.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B7MX52bpKg7/

Get Rid of Syrupy Liquids

Sweet liquors taste amazing because they are full of sugar. Just use the real thing and add a shot of espresso if you want a coffee taste and mint leaves if you want a peppermint taste.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bq9ofU1HFp_/?fbclid=IwAR1JwOC3-hReo9-ydQJj2etWmFCcjufyTw8wltfKazzF6RwfJrFWn_2FK30

Ingredients

To make the mint julep cocktail you will need:
2 1/2 oz bourbon whiskey
seltzer water
1 1/2 teaspoons superfine sugar
crushed ice
10 mint leaves

Use a quality bourbon whiskey for the tastiest cocktail. You will also need some extra mint leaves for the garnish at the end.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BoGUpPoAJl_/?fbclid=IwAR1ZngESwOXGfPpbKVoioVWtaG-PhbvYhtz6mWyXdxaVTOQsxTOpnfdFZlA

Instructions

The best thing about this cocktail is that you won’t be needing a shaker. This means that the process is much easier and anyone can prepare it.

The latest trends feature this chic metal glass for a mint julep, which you can easily find in many stores. A regular glass will also do the job.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BlY_-ERgFf8/?fbclid=IwAR0F2YuOtIUl9ZOi4RjXXVbBAoIwX_yXWtlFWrb2pzcs3Xb23MbViv7hnRc

Start by putting the mint leaves in the glass together with the sugar. Grab a muddler or anything else that would do the job. Start muddling until you get small pieces of the mint leaves.

You can now add a little bit of seltzer water on top. Get the crushed ice and fill in the glass up to 3/4 quarters. Pour the bourbon and top off with seltzer water. Mix it with a straw and decorate with a mint leaf.

Bloody Mary For Antioxidants

The tomato-based drink is high in antioxidants and the next time you’re meeting the girlfriends for drinks, order a Bloody Mary instead of a mimosa. Try and get one that uses real tomatoes and not corn syrup or artificial colors.

Kombucha For Bubbly Drinks

The gut-friendly drink adds a bubbly touch to your cocktail while boosting your immune system.

Add Real Fruit

In addition to making your cocktail taste fresh, real fruit like blood oranges, lemons, and tart cherries give you your vitamins and can be part of your recommended servings of fruit for the day.

Get Rid of Syrupy Liquids

Sweet liquors taste amazing because they are full of sugar. Just use the real thing and add a shot of espresso if you want a coffee taste and mint leaves if you want a peppermint taste.
