Signs Your Pet is Suffering From Winter Depression

Just like people, pets can feel the seasonal changes. But unlike people, they don’t have a way to tell us how they feel. Here are some symptoms that will help you understand if your pet is suffering from winter depression.

Bad Appetite

One of the first signs that something is wrong with your pet is the absence of appetite. If this happens, go to the vet first to rule out toothache or other health problems. If your pet doesn’t want food, not even their favorite treats, it’s probably suffering emotionally.

Avoiding Humans

Avoiding contact with humans and other pets and turning to loneliness can be a clear sign of depression. This is especially true for cats, who will close up emotionally if they’re unwell.

Laziness

If your pet suddenly doesn’t have any will to play, you can be pretty sure that the reason is seasonal depression. It’s not easy to spot this when your pet isn’t too playful otherwise, but you can usually tell.

How to Help Them?

Be patient and gentle with including them in new activities. Try calming routines and new toys. Some extra attention never hurts!
