Ryan Kelly Will Leave You Speechless With Pop Culture-Inspired Lip Art

Some makeup professionals really transformed their craft into an art form, and Ryan Kelly is definitely one of them. She’s known for using lips as a canvas and transforming them into tiny masterpieces inspired by pop culture.

Lipstick Managed. (Below the product list I’ve explained a bit about my process these days. Feel free to scroll down if you have a sec) I used: @jeffreestarcosmetics @jeffreestar Liquid Lipstick in Drug Lord as my base @anastasiabeverlyhills @norvina Dipbrow in Chocolate and Auburn for the burnt edges and some of the discoloration of the “paper” @limecrimemakeup Bushy Brown Pens in Brownie and Redhead for the Hogwarts outline @milanicosmetics Amore Matte Lip Creme in Vixen for the middle section @tattoojunkeecosmetics White Eyeliner Pen for the lettering I tried an entirely NEW technique for this one- projection! It still has a LOT of kinks to work out so I don’t quite recommend it yet. Once I have it refined I’ll make a video for you guys! As a lot of you already know, I have been playing around with some different techniques for lip art. As much as I enjoy (and prefer) freehand work, I have a one year old now who has just started walking (haaaalp), so my art play time is limited. My struggle is that I feel more creative than ever and I don’t want to slow down. I guess I’m telling all of this because I want to be as transparent as I can and I encourage all “influencers” to do the same. Real life just doesn’t allow for 4-6 hour looks at the moment, so sometimes shortcuts (though it’s really the same amount of work, just more easily broken up into segments) are necessary. Some of these looks simply wouldn’t be possible in smaller windows of time without these techniques. At the end of the day it’s all about the ART. I appreciate your support more than you could ever know- & so does my family, who I’m able to help provide for because of this platform and medium. If you ever have questions or want to know how something is done, I’m always happy to share! Feel free to DM me or leave a comment any time 😊 #lipart #harrypotter #maraudersmap #mischiefmanaged #anastasiabeverlyhills #norvina #limecrime #milanicosmetics #jeffreestarcosmetics #tattoojunkeecosmetics

The Maryland-based artist has been perfecting her skills for four years and has earned almost 90 thousand followers. It took a lot of practice and patience to get there, and things weren’t really looking up for her in the beginning.

“My technique has certainly evolved. I definitely look back on my earlier looks and cringe a bit. One thing that’s remained pretty consistent is the content. I love playing with trends and pop culture references,” said Kelly while chatting with Allure.

We’ve seen her reference everything from Clueless to Game of Thrones over the years, and it initially took her six to seven hours to finish a single idea. She discovered new techniques over the years, and some of her works are no longer painted freehand.

“I saw another makeup artist use transfer paper – similar to what a tattoo artist uses – for body painting, and a light-bulb went off in my head. It took some serious refining, but now I love having that as an option for days when I’m limited on time,” Kelly told Allure.

Check out some more of her amazing lip art and we’re sure you’ll be completely mind-blown!
