After scoring in Dallas Stars’ 3-2 double-overtime win against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday, Joe Pavelski broke the record for most goals scored in the NHL postseason by a United States-born player.

His tally for the current postseason is 13 goals, while his all-time postseason record is 61 goals. This sees him overtake Joe Mullen, who amassed 60 postseason goals in his NHL career.

“It’s fun to be up there with those guys, and we’ll try to keep going,” Pavelski said. “We’ll look at it another day, some other time, I’m not too worried about it right now. We’re trying to get that trophy.”

In addition to this high honor, Pavelski’s goal also proved significant to his team’s Stanley Cup ambitions. After all, it proved to be the winner in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final.

This win sees Dallas keep their cup run alive. They now trail Tampa Bay Lightning by an aggregate score of 3-2.

Game 6 takes place on Tuesday, the 29th of November. This game is a must-win for Dallas, should they wish to take the series to seven games and keep their title hopes alive.
