Marshawn Lynch Will Only Return to NFL if he Gets a Chance to Win a Super Bowl

Legendary Seattle Seahawks’ running back Marshawn Lynch wouldn’t mind coming out of retirement for the third time but under one specific condition—according to Lynch, it’s the Super Bowl game or nothing for him.

Speaking with talk show host Conan O’Brien on Wednesday, Lynch said that the only way he would consider playing again is if he would get a chance to win another ring. The five-time Pro Bowler previously won one with Seattle in the 2013 NFL season.

“If the situation is right, then I mean, it could happen,” said Lynch when asked about his return to NFL. “I’ve been asked the question by a couple teams here recently. Like, ‘Are you ready?’ I’m ready if you all are Super Bowl ready. That’s what it would take me to come out, to come and play again. It would have to be a guaranteed Super Bowl game for me.”

Marshawn Lynch un-retried the last time towards the end of the 2019 NFL season, when he was brought in by the Seattle Seahawks following multiple injuries to their RB corps. Lynch rushed for 34 yards and a touchdown in his debut while adding 33 yards and three more TDs in the postseason.

While this showed that Lynch can still play at a high level, his Super Bowl requirement rules out plenty of teams that would be interested in his services. Most teams that could meet it, however, don’t need another running back.

The most viable option would be Pittsburgh Steelers, who are struggling to find a running game in 2020 despite their 11-1 record. Still, it is unclear whether they are willing to incorporate such a big piece in their offense so late in the season.

Seattle shouldn’t be ruled out as well, but they first need to return to winning ways in order to be attractive to Lynch.
