Khloé Kardashian introduced her first solo fragrance, XO Khloé, marking a new chapter in her personal and professional journey. Available at ulta.com now and set to be in Ulta stores on December 8, the fragrance also had an exclusive launch at Harrods in the UK. On November 11, she teased the launch with an ethereal Instagram post, saying, “I’m so excited to finally share my debut fragrance with all of you.”
Creating the fragrance was a deeply personal endeavor for Kardashian. The process took “close to a year and a half” and involved “100 rounds of fragrance mods” in partnership with Luxe Brands. Kardashian described the experience as both intimidating and vulnerable. “Me doing something on my own in the beauty world has always been very intimidating for me, but this was just the category I really wanted to start in,” she stated.
Kardashian feels that XO Khloé captures how she feels now and marks an entirely new chapter for her. “It’s an extension of me. The fact that it came after my 40th, it just feels so perfect to me. I feel like it is divine timing,” she shared.
She expressed that creating the fragrance was a “love-hate relationship”, noting the challenge of selecting the right scent but ultimately loving the result, according to The Zoe Report. She delayed the launch multiple times. “We were supposed to come out with this scent months ago, but I didn’t have the right juice,” she said. “I had so many deadlines I was supposed to make, but the scent wasn’t right, so I kept extending it and extending it, because I wanted this to be perfect.”
Kardashian sees the scent as a reflection and celebration of her self-work. “I think, for me, I’ve struggled a lot internally and I’ve gone through a lot, and I have had to sometimes pretend I feel a way that I really don’t. I finally feel that I’m at a really good place in my life mentally, and I’m so proud of where I’ve gotten myself emotionally and just professionally and just as a person, so it’s something that I wanted to share with the world,” she said.
“The scent is how I feel in my life right now. I’m light, happy, and really confident,” she noted, according to Elle.
XO Khloé is a blend of sweet florals and fruits, including crystallized rose petals, orange blossom water, and juicy peach, combined with warm woods like moss and soft wood, and musks. “I love orange blossom and rose, so we blended those together for ‘XO KHLOÉ,'” she said.
She described the scent as “very decadent and sexy but also delicate and light, and you can layer it, so I just feel like it is very identifiably me.”
She aimed for a balance between sweetness and depth. “When it gets too sweet, it can feel a little youthful—like, I wouldn’t want to wear it to a meeting,” she noted. Kardashian believes the woodsy elements are essential to balance the fragrance’s sweetness.
The bottle design was inspired by her love for prisms and multifaceted objects. Kardashian had a Pinterest board of interior design elements and took inspiration from there. She created a beautiful crystal bottle, stating, “I love different prisms and multifaceted things because I love how light pokes through them,” according to The Zoe Report. The result is a geometric bottle that “resembles glamour and elegance and sexiness, but [also that] you’re shining. It’s this crystal bottle with a lot of angles and cuts in it. You have all these prisms if you hold it in the light, and it’s beautiful.”
The name XO Khloé holds personal significance. She explained, “I sign my signature as either XO or a heart [followed by] Khloé. I didn’t think a heart would translate, so I did XO Khloé. It just was short and chic and sweet.”
Now Kardashian wears XO Khloé every day, and she feels it “tops off anything that I am wearing” and considers it part of her routine.
