The land of the rising sun is the most mysterious and interesting place to visit in the world. If you’re planning to visit Japan anytime soon, you should prepare by reading some basic information about this fascinating county.

Here’s a few tips that’ll make your trip to Japan more comfortable.

No tipping, please

Unlike many other countries, tipping is not customary in Japan. If you leave a generous tip in a restaurant or some other place, the staff will probably be very confused or even offended.

Money

It would be good to have multiple payment options available once you come to Japan, like traveler’s cheques or debit cards – just in case something happens. If you run out of cash, finding an ATM that accept foreign cards can be pretty hard.

Shoes

Make sure to wear shoes you can take off easily because you can be asked to remove them before entering some places such as inns, cafes or even restaurants.

Manners

As soon as you come to Japan, you’ll notice how specific their culture is. Being polite and greeting strangers with a smile is a big part of that culture. Try to do the same thing when you talk to locals – use polite phrases to show gratitude and appreciation and you won’t have any problems fitting in.
