How to Take a Vacation as a Freelancer

Being a freelancer comes with many perks, such as not having fixed work hours or being forced to work around coworkers you don’t like. Not having to commute also saves a ton of time.

But what about vacations? When you’re a freelancer, every day and hour you don’t work equals money not earned and that can put you under a lot of pressure.

Just like everyone else, you need vacations to rest and recharge, otherwise, you’ll burn out. Here’s how to build your vacation strategy and enjoy it guilt-free.

Let Your Clients Know

Communicate with each of your clients and let them know about the dates when you won’t be available. Do it in advance so they have time to set priorities and let you know what to do before your vacation and what can wait.

Find a Backup

It’s good to have someone reliable who can take on emergency projects that can’t wait for you to come back. You can do the same for that person when they take a break.

Finish Everything Before You Go

It’s not easy to relax if you go on a vacation with unfinished tasks waiting for you. Be realistic and do everything before you go, otherwise, you may end up crunched over a laptop when you should be on the beach.
