Many cosmetic products are aimed at those trying to solve dry skin issues, with thick creams, luxurious moisturizers, and heavy serums filling the shelves in lots of drugstores. If you have oily skin, you may feel unsure of the best ways to combat it and frustrated by your foundation slipping off by midday. Read on for three quick tips that could make all the difference.

Exfoliate

In the past, exfoliation meant using a harsh cloth or cream which scrubbed the skin and left it looking red and raw. Nowadays, most exfoliation is done through acids or other products which penetrate the skin and slough off dead skin cells. Try an exfoliator that contains salicylic acid, niacinamide, or glycolic acid. Do be aware that all of these ingredients can cause skin irritation and you will need to ensure that you’re using a SPF as your skin will be more sun-sensitive after use.

Clay Mask

A good quality clay mask can absorb excess oil and cleanse pores when used weekly. Clean the skin thoroughly, then smooth the mask over your skin. Once it’s hardened, remove it with a soft cloth and warm water. Your skin should look supple, soft, and clearer after use.

Moisturize

Skin experts agree that even oily skin needs moisturizing, but nobody wants to slather thick creams over oil-prone skin. Look for moisturizers advertised as non-comedogenic (which means it won’t block pores) or those marketed as light serums or as suitable for oily skin. It may be a case of trial and error, as what works for one person with oily skin may not suit another. Don’t be afraid to try the budget options in a drugstore, often these are better for oily skin as they aren’t loaded with multiple ingredients like the more expensive brands.
