When it comes to matters of beauty, there are common sayings such as “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, or “it’s about what’s on the inside that counts”. These are great slogans for obvious reasons, but what exactly do they mean in the practical sense? In this day and age, many people feel so pressured to look a certain way that it can be hard to buy into these saccharine slogans about inner beauty. Well, it turns out that they’re not just empty words—because inner beauty is directed connected to outer beauty.

Shining From The Inside

We think we understand everything about beauty, but we really don’t. We think we see things as they are, but do we really? The truth is that what we perceive as solely external beauty actually has the thumbprints of inner beauty all over it.

Perhaps the most classic example of this idea is a mere smile. When a person smiles, their entire countenance lights up like the force of a thousand suns. We may not realize it, but in that very moment, they inner beauty is informing their outer beauty. Their smile is giving us a glimpse into their very soul, and thus combining the inner and outer in a beautiful way.

This idea can be taken further when you consider the fact that every person has their own smile, or their own wide range of expressions for that matter. These expressions, in many ways, are the essence of a person’s beauty—and that’s why you shouldn’t just scoff at powerful slogans that highlight importance of inner beauty.
