If you have a soy allergy or simply don’t like to take risks with soy, it can be a little more difficult to find sufficient meat substitutes. However, there is a way make soy-free tofu at home with only a few ingredients! This tofu is super versatile, very springy, and tons of protein from the chickpea flour, which is the main ingredient. Try making this in your own kitchen and be amazed how little effort you have to put into it.

Ingredients

The only ingredients for this recipe is water, chickpea flour, turmeric, salt, and natural oil, which is only used for greasing.

Process

Whisk together turmeric, salt, and chickpea flour in a bowl and then add half of the water. Grease a baking dish which will be used to pour the mixture in when it’s done. Bring the other half of the water to a boil, reduce to medium-high heat, and add the chickpea mixture. Whisk until it’s the consistency of polenta, between 7-10 minutes. Pour into the dish, wait at least an hour for it set at room temperature, and it’s ready!

Recipes To Try

You can eat the tofu straight away, but it can also be baked or sauteed. Adding some bold spices like za’atar or Old Bay would be a great marriage.
