If we had to pick a single winter sport that everyone knows and loves, we’d have to go with ice skating. Like all the other outdoor spaces that are usually pretty crowded, ice rinks look different this winter, but there are still many ways to safely enjoy this family-friendly sport in the era of social distancing.

Safety Rules

Ice rinks around the world are operating under limited capacity right now, with clear safety guidelines in place. If you decide to visit them, make sure you’re staying six feet apart from other visitors, and sanitize your hands and equipment. Also, don’t forget it’s highly recommended to wear a face-covering, especially if you’re ice skating indoors.

Time Your Visit

You can also do your own part in avoiding the crowds. Ice rinks usually tend to be packed in the afternoon, and you should try to avoid peak hours. If your local ice rinks are open in the mornings, show up as early as possible, and try to skip the weekends altogether.

Come Prepared

Ice rinks are usually operating at under 50% of their usual capacity, and that’s why it’s a good idea to book your session if possible. You’ll save a lot of time and energy this way, and if you happen to have your own skates and hamlet, now’s a better time than ever to bring them along.
