For Sojin Oh, “Nail Art” Means Something Very Literal

In a way, nail art is a temporary tattoo for your nails. It adds a splash of art to your body and it only lasts a few weeks. With a nail pen, your nails can become tiny little easels to express your mood and get creative.

For Vogue-featured nail artist Sojin Oh, nail art means something quite literal. She has been using her nails to create 3D nail art that looks like it should be hanging up in a modern art gallery.

Her creations are inspired by nature. Many of her recent creations were inspired by her newfound love of scuba diving. When Oh dives, she collects images of the weird and wonderful creatures that live beneath the ocean waves.

“It was so beautiful under the water,” Oh told Vogue. “I wanted to show people what I was seeing and simultaneously remind people of the importance of nature.”

The art Oh creates is like a miniature sculpture for the nails. In addition to being inspired by underwater, Oh recreates icicles and snow. Each piece she creates has a special meaning for her.
