There is nothing more soothing than having a fireplace. A big ground flour with a crackling fire in the winter is everyone’s dream. Just that sound along with the flames dancing around is what you need to relax when it’s chilly outside.

However, reality kicks in – most people don’t clean their chimneys and they end up with a smelly house. You want fresh, air, not the scent of the inside of a coal mine. Avoid that, and here’s how.

Why?

Wood doesn’t just disappear when it burns. It leaves a lot of contaminants hanging on the walls of your chimney. This is just one part – there is also twigs, leaves and other debris that the wind might bring in. Birds can also create nests, which may cause terrible and destructive fires.

When?

The obvious answer is the summer or at the beginning of fall. Before the wood-burning season begins, any days is okay.

How?

You’ll need to buy chimney brushes, extension rods, and a drill. With the drill, you will get rid of the debris, get rid of the rest with the brushes and annihilate the rest of the debris. Problem solved!
