Once we start wearing makeup, it can be difficult to stop. It’s easy to get used to seeing a flawless face in the mirror thanks to foundation, contouring, and mascara … meaning going out without them can become nerve-wracking. There’s nothing wrong with makeup as a form of self-expression, of course, but if you’re someone who doesn’t connect to your makeup or finds it time-consuming then you might be looking to make a change. One thing that can help is trying out more minimal looks to get used to showing off your natural face.

Sheer Foundation

Not all foundations are full-coverage and opaque. If you’re used to making your skin look completely one-tone or contouring, try out some lighter foundation. This will help you get used to seeing your natural skin in the mirror while still providing some correction and evening your tones.

Focus On One Feature

Another option is to skip the full face and instead use a bit of makeup to make one feature pop. Maybe this means mascara and a bit of eyeshadow, or some nice lipstick. This can help you get to know your own features and get familiar with your natural beauty.

Go Absurd

If you’ve historically used makeup to blot out imperfections and not as a form of self-expression, it can be fun to try out different out-there makeup looks to show off your personality. Maybe that means unconventional lipstick and eyeshadow colors or face glitter. There are endless possibilities and they don’t need to include any kind of “corrective” makeup—your face is perfect as-is, and it doesn’t need to be corrected.

Waking up can be hard, so lots of people turn to guide to help boost their mornings. But, many experts say that it’s best to hold off on having caffeine first thing in the morning. So when should you be having your coffee?

Right After Breakfast

When you first wake up, your body gets a boost from the hormone that makes you alert, cortisol. Some scientists think drinking coffee during that boost can create even more cortisol than you need. Or, it can be a waste of caffeine because your body is already waking you up. It’s better to drink after breakfast when you need the boost more.

After Lunch

People often feel a lull in the afternoon, especially if they eat a big lunch. If you’re at work and need a pick-me-up, this can be a good time to have a cup of Joe. The extra boost may also help with concentration, and a nice warm drink is a lovely way to decompress mid-workday.

Before a Workout

To help get psyched up before a workout, many people drink energy drinks or caffeine-induced protein shakes. These can raise energy levels for a higher-intensity workout. But, you don’t need to worry about fancy fitness drinks—coffee will do the job just fine.

Ramen can be a great snack or a nice budget meal for rainy days. But what if you only have the noodles or you want the most popular flavor, chicken, but all you have is prawn? Luckily, it’s super easy to make ramen broth from scratch! Here’s how to make your own broth at home.

The first three ingredients you’ll need are chicken stock (powder is just fine), fresh garlic, and soy sauce. Chicken stock will be your base, so start by boiling some in a pot. Use a heaping tablespoon of powder if that’s what you’re using. Don’t use too much or it will be too salty.

Crush 3 or more cloves of garlic and add to the pot. If you don’t have fresh, use garlic powder. If you like some extra zing, fresh ginger or ginger powder are a delicious addition to make a more authentic broth. This is also very soothing if you aren’t feeling well.

Finally, add your soy sauce. Start with a teaspoon and add more to taste. This is what will provide you with the umami flavor that defines ramen. If you like, try adding a bit of sesame oil and green onions on top.

Now you can add your noodles, and try dropping in a raw egg to cook for some protein. Enjoy!

When packing for a plane ride, it can be hard to decide what you’ll want access to during the ride. The idea of not being able to get to your stuff during a trip can be stress-inducing, but it doesn’t need to be. Most of the time we pack more than we need instead of less. Here’s how to pack the perfect carry-on.

Valuables

First and foremost, keep valuables like nice jewelry and electronics with you. We tend to rely heavily on our laptops and tablets, so it’s best to always have these on you in case you need them. Don’t forget to keep the chargers, too. On the off chance that you run into trouble getting your checked bag, your irreplaceable won’t be in jeopardy.

Clothes

For the same reason, you may want to pack a change of clothes (or at least some socks and underwear) in case you’re stuck without your suitcase for longer than you expect. Be sure to keep any medicine you may need on you as well.

Comfort and Entertainment

Beyond these essentials, the rest of your space can be used for comfort and entertainment. Especially for longer flights, pack something to do that doesn’t rely on electronics. This might be a book, an adult coloring book, or some work you need to get done.

For comfort, if you have room, you could bring a neck pillow, a blanket, or anything else you just want with you. To finish off, go ahead a pack a snack. Happy flying!

When making a playlist, most of the time we want to create a certain mood or setting as a theme. We want to think about how the playlist will make us feel and one of the best ways to feel is like we’re in a romantic comedy movie! Who among us hasn’t wished we were living a quirky, successful life with love waiting around every corner? Here are some of the best rom-com songs for a playlist that will have you walking down the street like you’ll bump into your future spouse at any moment.

10 Things I Hate About You

“Cruel to Be Kind” and “I Want You To Want Me” by Letters To Cleo.

These will give the playlist hype and have you dancing like a 90’s punk queen.

She’s All That

“Kiss Me” by Sixpence None the Richer.

While still an upbeat song, this classic jam will have you wistfully walking down the street as if you were walking down the aisle.

Say Anything

“In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel.

As the song playing on the boombox that John Cusack holds above his head in one of the best-known rom-com climaxes, this song is simply too iconic to leave out.

Clueless

“Rollin’ With My Homies” by Coolio.

Played during the party, the song comes back later in the movie as a symbol of heartbreak–but it will also add some hip hop funk to your playlist.

Dirty Dancing

“I’ve Had the Time of My Life” by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes.

As the song played during possibly the most well-known romantic movie moment of all time, when Patrick Swayze lifts Jennifer Grey above his head and her life changes forever, this song must be included on any good rom-com playlist.

One of the best parts of a road trip is that you get to snack while you drive. Nothing beats being out on the open road with the radio blasting and the crunch of junk food in your mouth. If you want to make the most of your gas station runs, then you have to know which snacks are the most satisfying and will enhance your driving experience the most. So, here are some suggestions.

The Chex Mixes

Chex has a lot to choose from, both sweet and salty. Classic Chex Mix is a great option, as it has lots of different types of snacks for maximum variety and crunch type in one bag. If you ever ate puppy chow as a child, then you’ll enjoy Chex’s Muddy Buddies–Chex cereal coated in peanut butter, chocolate, and powdered sugar.

Snack Cakes

There is something intensely satisfying about biting into a soft, artificially-flavored cake. Enrobed in chocolate or filled with icing, if this is your craving then gas stations have a plethora of options. They also come in single-serving packets, so if you have a tendency to go overboard on snacks then this is a great way to keep them rationed.

Mixed Nuts

For a healthier and more substantial option, roasted and salted nuts are always a good choice. Nuts are full of protein and healthy fats, so they’ll keep you feeling full when you can’t stop for long stretches. Just be sure to have some water on hand to counteract the salt!

Coffee comes in a multitude of forms, from warm and black all the way to creamy, sweet, and frozen. People are always thinking up new and exciting ways to consume it, including edible creations. So whether you are looking for a more efficient way to get your morning fix or want to try coffee in every form available, here are some ways to eat your coffee instead of drinking it.

Coffee Butter

Kind of like peanut butter or cookie butter, coffee butter™ is the creation of nudge.®, a company that makes different forms of edible coffee. Their coffee butter is particularly unique because it can be spread on toast, mixed into oatmeal, or blended into a smoothie. It’s also fairly healthy, being keto-friendly with minimal carbs.

Snack Bars

Snack company Eat Your Coffee has created snack bars with ethically sourced natural ingredients and a cup’s worth of coffee. If you ever find yourself too tired or hungry to prepare a meal or a drink, then this is a great option to try.

Coffee Jelly

Originating in Japan, coffee jelly is a delicious and easy-to-make treat that will also give you your caffeine fix. Just cook gelatin with sugar and coffee, and keep it in the fridge until you’re ready to eat it. The jelly is often served with sweet cream or whipped cream over it.

We all know the feeling of being stuck at the gate in an airport, waiting for boarding to start. Maybe you already bought a snack or a souvenir from an airport shop, or maybe your flight is delayed and you have to hang out at the gate. Either way, you need something to occupy you while you sit there. Here are some activities to do while sitting at your gate.

Sketching

If you’ve got an artistic streak, take a little sketchpad and pencil on your next trip and use the time at the gate to sketch. It’s the perfect time to flex your creative muscle or to work on your technique by sketching your surroundings. When they call boarding you just quickly stash the pad in your bag or pocket and you’re ready to go.

Making Friends

If you’re a social butterfly, you can always strike up a conversation with your fellow passengers. If you’re at the same gate then you have the same destination, so you already have the perfect icebreaker. This is a great way to expand your horizons and practice approaching new people in a low-stakes setting.

Stretching

Once you get on the plane, you’ll have to stay seated for a long stretch of time. That can make you stiff and uncomfortable, so use your time at the gate to stretch out in preparation. You’ll be doing your body a favor by taking this chance to stand and move around before you board.

Eggs are an important part of most baking recipes. They act as a binding agent to help give your cakes and cookies their form, and it can be difficult to bake without using them. So whether you’re vegan, allergic to eggs, or just ran out and don’t have time to go to the store, knowing about good egg replacements can be very helpful. Luckily, there are several fruits that you probably have around the house which can do the job of eggs, so your cookies can still come out perfectly.

Applesauce

In a recipe with one egg, you can use 1/4 cup applesauce as an ingredient binder. This works especially well for sweet foods, although it’s best to use unsweetened applesauce to avoid adding too much extra flavor to the recipe.

Mashed bananas

One more well-known baking binder is banana. There are many recipes that incorporate bananas into the batter, including bread, pancakes, and even cookies. This will certainly add some banana flavor to your recipe, but luckily this pairs well with lots of other flavors like chocolate, nuts, cinnamon, and more. You can use half a banana to replace each egg.

Tomato

For savory recipes, you can use 1/4 cup pureed tomato to replace each egg. In a pinch, you can try out other fruit and root vegetable purees as well, like avocado or squash.
