Artist Paints Realistic Miniature Animals On Stones

Have you ever tried using your imagination and creativity to transform ordinary items into pieces of art? For example, there are many people who collect stones and paint beautiful designs on them.

Japanese artist Akie Nakata is one of those people who’s been collecting stones ever since she was a little girl. However, in 2011 she found a stone that reminded her of a rabbit and this is when she started transforming stones into animals.

To this day Nakata created a large collection of lifelike animals such as dogs, bears, cats, owls, hedgehogs and many others. Her stones covered in acrylic paint are so detailed, you’ll probably have a hard time realizing they’re not real.

“In order to bring out the wild animals that I feel in the stone to its surface, I proceed very carefully. I consider step by step, for example, whether I am positioning the backbone in the right place. Does it feel right? Am I forcing something that disagrees with the natural shape of the stone?” the artist explained on Bored Panda.

Nakata says she paints the eyes in the end and considers her work done when she sees that the eyes are alive and looking back at her. Her animals truly have eyes that speak to the observer and this is what makes these pet stones so unique.
