Five minutes into watching Into The Wild, we were ready to run away into the Canadian wilderness. A little rational thinking reminded us that a city break is probably more practical, not to mention far less dangerous. Here are 5 movies that will trigger your wanderlust and get you fantasizing about Europe.

Amelie (Paris, France)

There are many movies out there that will send you dreaming about Paris but Amelie intricately details what life in Paris is really like. It’s less about grandeur and romance and more about the sweet man that works at the fruit and vegetable stall. A beautiful film and a beautiful depiction of the city of love.

Mama Mia: Here We Go Again (Greece)

At least half of my female friends who have watched the Mama Mia sequel have told me at one point that they want to quit their job, buy a pair of dungarees and escape to Greece to live on an island.

The Holiday (England, UK)

The Holiday shows what life is like in England if you flee London and live in the country. The depiction is charming, cozy and is a great representation of life in the Oxford countryside.

Vicky Christina Barcelona (Barcelona, Spain)

This prickly romance highlights just what a romantic city Barcelona can be at night. That said, we tend to want to be anywhere where Scarlett Johanson is seen enjoying red wine on a balcony.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (Sweden)

If romantic movies aren’t really your thing, the psychological thriller trilogy The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo gives insight into life in Scandinavia, where this is ironically very low crime.
