5 Life Lessons You Can Take Away From “Eat, Pray, Love”

Eat, Pray, Love starring Julia Roberts is the kind of movie that makes you want to pack up your bags and take a journey. It’s a story of self-discovery and finding one’s balance in a chaotic world. Here are some of the key life lessons you can take away from the movie.

Sometimes Imbalance is Part of Leading a Balanced Life

Although balance is desirable, sometimes a little imbalance for the sake of love is part of leading a balanced life. Liz spent her time in India learning to focus on her meditation and sense of self but ultimately, she learned that giving over to love enabled her feel most whole.

It’s OK to Walk Away

If a relationship isn’t working, it’s ok to walk away. Communication is important and we should try out best but we should never settle for misery out of fear of being alone.

Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

In Rome, Liz regained her appetite and learned to take joy in the little things. She equally remembered not to sweat the small stuff and embrace life as it is – muffin tops and all.

Family is the Most Important Thing

Although Liz took her journey alone, it was the people around her that made the experience special. From her family in Rome to the people that shared her spiritual journey in India, it is the people she cared about that brought her back to life.

Follow Your Gut

Above all, follow your gut. If your instinct is telling you to take a journey – take it. Do not fear what other people think of you and do not worry about what is expected of you. You know yourself better than anyone else and if you feel you need to take a leap of faith – you are probably right.

The other day I got a DM from this young person saying that he had just started his new job but already wanted to quit! I met another person today who told me the same thing…seriously guys my heart breaks every time I hear people tell me about how they want to quit even before starting out in life! I will tell you a short story about myself. When I was 17, I left home for fashion college. It was the first time I was going to live away from a super-protected and a super-comfortable environment. My college hostel was really bad, the food was pathetic, and I fell sick with typhoid. I resented every moment I spent there, and decided to quit. I decided to come back home, give up fashion, and study something in the local college. At this point, a dear friend wrote me a letter telling me how he looked up to me, and how he always found inspiration from how I was going ahead with my dreams! And he told me not to quit. He begged me. He showed me the light. And I went back to fashion college. The next two years in college were so hard, I thought I would die. Despite the constant pressure from meeting project deadlines, I met with an accident, I got chicken-pox…but I kept on…and on my graduation day I was awarded the Best Design Collection, and invited to participate in bigger fashion shows. And because I didn’t quit, I developed a sort of resilience and inner strength that carried me forward, and that helped me to take my first trip alone to Italy and Europe when I was 20…and because I didn’t quit, I can dance around in rice fields in Bali today…and share my story with you! And now I realize that if I had quit, I would have been haunted with a feeling of failure for the rest of my life. @vicksit , remember those days!!!!
