TikTok probably convinced you that you can cook pretty much anything inside your air fryer, but that’s not really true. Despite being pretty versatile, there are some types of foods that won’t benefit from being cooked inside an air fryer, and these five fall under that category.

Whole Chicken

Large chunks of meat, such as whole chicken, don’t belong inside your air fryer, no matter how big it is, because they’ll cook unevenly due to a lack of space for hot air circulation.

Cheesy Foods

Cheese-filled items are best prepared outside of the air fryer because the cheese can leak out while melting, creating a huge mess inside your air fryer.

Soups and Liquids

Cooking soup and other liquid-based foods can also be quite messy since the hot air circulation inside an air fryer may lead to splattering.

Wet Batter

The wet batter is another ingredient that can create a huge mess inside your air fryer. Foods coated in it will also fail to develop a moist and fluffy texture so it’s basically a lose-lose situation.

Leafy Greens

Veggies with high water content, such as leafy greens, also don’t cook great inside an air fryer. In addition to wilting and becoming dry, they may also fly around the air fryer basket due to high-speed hot air circulation.
