There’s nothing quite like cracking open that pint of ice cream on a scorching hot summer day—until you realize it’s completely frozen. If you don’t feel like waiting for your ice cream to melt so you could eat it, here are three hacks that will help you keep it soft and scoopable.

Upside Down

If your ice cream has already been opened, consider placing it upside down to protect it from the freezer burn. The runny bits of ice cream will make their way to the lid, instead of forming crystals on top and spoiling your ice cream. Make sure that the lid is firmly closed to avoid making a mess in your freezer.

Cover Up

You should also consider placing your ice cream container into a Ziploc bag to stop the temperature inside it from getting too cold. Covering the ice cream surface with parchment paper is also an option because the paper will create a protective layer for your ice cream.

Heated Scoop

If your ice cream is already frozen and it’s too late to apply any of the previous hacks, a heated ice cream scoop is all you need. Run your scoop under the hot water for a few seconds because the warm temperature will make it easier to cut through frozen ice cream with ease.
