Although women’s dietary needs are pretty similar to those of men, we do have a few hormones to contend with, especially during menopause. Apart from going for check-ups and exercising, the food you eat is crucial for health. Here are some foods that experts recommend for women in particular.

Flaxseeds

Flaxseeds contain compounds that are similar to estrogen that science says decreases tumor growth in women with breast cancer. But whole flaxseeds are indigestible.

They need to be ground up into a meal that you can add to just about anything, including your breakfast cereal, a smoothie, or muffins and bread.

They also add to your fiber intake, which is great for bowel health, and reduce cholesterol levels, which helps to prevent heart disease.

Dark leafy greens

Dark leafy greens contain loads of calcium, which is good news for our bones. It decreases a women’s risk of developing osteoporosis and also provides fiber, vitamin K, folate, iron, and antioxidants.

Examples of dark leafy greens include kale, chard, spinach, and bok choy. Make sure you prepare your greens with a source of vitamin C to allow the iron in the greens to be absorbed by your body.
