If you’ve been spending the past several months social distancing, you may be feeling frustrated by your hair which, in the absence of being able to go out to a salon, just keeps getting longer and longer. But you don’t just have to watch as your hair grows down to your knees; you can totally cut it yourself at home! Here are some tips.

Get Help

The hardest part of cutting your own hair is not being able to see the back of it. If you’re lucky enough to be living with somebody else during this pandemic, enlist them to help you, even if it’s just to even things out once you’re almost done.

Start Small

The age-old adage about cutting hair is true: you can always cut off more hair, but you can’t undo the cutting you’ve already done. So when you cut your own hair, start by just taking off a centimeter or two.

Don’t Be Overambitious

If you’re used to going to the salon for your haircuts, you may like to get complicated styles with lots of layering and complex haircutting techniques. Unfortunately, it’s not totally likely that you’ll be able to replicate these techniques yourself. Instead, try to settle for something simple, like snipping off your dead ends.

We’re witnessing a big change in the world. The coronavirus pandemic is spreading around the world and one of the consequences is that more people are now working from home. In order to practice social distancing and keep yourself and people around you safe, you may have found yourself having to work from home instead of in the office.

One of the problems you may face now is how to look presentable on video calls, when you have a sudden meeting and you didn’t put makeup on, or just in general when you want to talk to someone without actually spending half an hour on makeup. Here are our best tips.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B91sEJmIU6w/

Face Natural Light

Natural light is your best friend. The window should be placed behind the camera for the best effect. If you can’t do that, it’s best to set up a lamp so the light bounces off a wall.

Apply Filters

Filters can be a lifesaver when you have an urgent meeting and you didn’t do your makeup. Many apps allow you to slightly filter the way you look for this purpose. Zoom, for example, offers the “touch up my face” option, plus you get to apply a background filter if your room is a mess!

https://www.instagram.com/p/B-YObWpHutv/

Do Your Hair

You don’t have to do much here, just make sure your hair is clean whenever possible. When that’s not the case, you can use some dry shampoo to give it volume and style it slightly.

With everything surrounding the coronavirus, people around the world have been practicing social distancing for several months now. Unfortunately, it’s easy to get stressed out and feel lonely during these times. The good news is is that there are a lot of ways to keep yourself entertained and social that don’t involve leaving your house. These tips will help get you through the pandemic that’s sweeping our world.

Establish Boundaries

While you may love spending time with your other half, being at home together 24/7 can ignite irritation. If you’re both working remotely, make sure you have your own personal space. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for alone time when you need it.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B-CQAALpPeS/

Have a Netflix Party

We wrote about it in another article, but in case you missed it, back in March, Google Chrome has added an extension called Netflix Party that allows you to watch programs on Netflix at the same time as family and friends without being in the same house.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B-AzVunBj44/

Schedule Virtual Dates

Take a break by video chatting with your friends and family with tools like Zoom, Google Hangouts, and Skype. Staying connected and knowing you’re not alone is important during these times.

Workout at Home

If you’re new to working out at home, YouTube is a great place to start as there are a plethora of workout videos available. Also, many gyms are streaming classes online, so they’re really something out there for everyone.

Most people are rescheduling their travel plans right now so it’s understandable if you got bored of spending your days in the same apartment looking through the same windows. Did you know that there’s a website that collects window views from people around the world that you can use for a quick change of scenery? It’s called Window Swap and if gives you a chance to escape for a few minutes (or hours) and look through someone else’s window for a change.

Window Swap asks its users to submit 10-minute long videos that include the window frames and the view through the window. Some people also include sound to improve the ambiance effect. As a visitor, you can click the button to get a random window view from nearly any point in the world.

The site was founded by Sonali Ranjit and Vaishnav Balasubramaniam who needed a quarantine project to help with lockdown blues. “Let’s face it, it’s going to be a while before we travel again and wake up to a new view outside our windows,” Ranjit told Campaign Asia-Pacific. “So until then, why not voyeuristically travel by looking out of somebody else’s window for a while?”

https://www.instagram.com/p/CCvx8SulZ9Q/

The couple lives in Singapore and hopes to give everyone a chance to “travel without moving for now”. How amazing is that?

While social distancing during the coronavirus it’s hard not to feel cooped up and what can you do with all your pent up energy? Sure, you can always binge watch TV, but you can make better use of your time while relieving your energy and using your creativity. Here are five things you can do while staying inside.

Flip Your Space

Get creative with what you have and move your furniture around to different corners, your drapes to another room, and restyling your wall art. Your space will feel refreshed and new after you make these small changes.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CBx01RagRsB/

Host a Date Night For One

Even if you’re the only one in your home, it’s nice to get dressed up, make a nice dinner, and to sip on some wine.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B_YD9L-nYye/

Do a Workout Video

Get active, take out the yoga mat, and watch a YouTube workout video. There are so many to choose from, but our personal favorite when it comes to variety is POPSUGAR FITNESS.

Make a Spa Date

Light some candles, play some soft music, and throw in a bath-bomb in your bath. After you’ve soaked up, apply a face mask, nail polish, and moisturizer. You’ll feel relaxed and pampered by the end of this.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CBtKyA8D767/

Declutter Your Closet

We all have that closet that’s long overdue to be cleared out. Make it easier by putting everything in a pile and going through each item one by one to decide what to keep and what to donate.

Quarantine fatigue is real and many of us around the world are experiencing it. It’s characterized by feeling isolated, social disconnected, and missing your routine. There are physical symptoms like fatigue, loss of energy, and sleep disturbances as well as emotional symptoms like anxiety, depression, lack of motivation, and irritability. So, how can you overcome quarantine fatigue?

Start With the Basics

The best place to start is by eating clean, staying hydrated, and finding ways to connect with your friends and family. Getting more fresh air and redirecting your thoughts are also ways to deal with quarantine fatigue.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CBgMiI7jrVV/

Talk About It

Just saying your inner thoughts and feelings out loud can make you feel better and it may help you find a solution to your problems. This includes talking to friends, family, or professionals.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CAzS942pjzb/

Unplug From Social Media & the News

Not much positive news is happening across the world right now and it’s important to limit your exposure to social media, even if it’s just for a couple of hours in the day.

Create a Routine

Since the coronavirus, you’ve probably lost a sense of routine. Try and structure your days by waking up a reasonable time and eating breakfast. Make sure you go to bed not too late.

Breathwork and Meditation

Deep breathing and meditation are super relaxing and they can help you deal with stress and fatigue. Plus you can practice them just about anywhere.

Find a Purpose

Now’s the time to try things you haven’t had time to do in the past. This can include learning a new instrument, taking an online art class, or trying a new recipe.

Social distancing is much easier when you’re sharing your home with your family members, partner, or roommates, but not everyone is lucky enough to have some company. Some people are forced to isolate on their own, and here’s how you can provide them with the support they need.

Regular Chats

Being in quarantine on your own can get super-lonely, so make sure to be there for people who are in this position. Reach out to them, see if they want to talk to pass the time, and try to keep the conversation light and focus on the positive stories.

Shared Activities

Even when you’re not video chatting with your loved ones who are isolating alone, there are still many things you can do together. Watch a show or read a book that you’re going to discuss later, or consider doing your workout together.

Care Packages

Even if you can’t see your friends and family in person, you can still send random gifts their way. Prepare a care package that contains their favorite snacks or spa day essentials, and we’re sure it will put a smile on their face.

Themed Party

Like we need an excuse to get dressed up for theme parties. There are so many to choose from like tropical vibes, Roaring Twenties, glow in the dark, Stranger Things, Old Hollywood, etc. Any reason to get out of sweats is enough for us.

Drive-By Serenade

You’ll get to actually see your friends in person while adhering to the CDC social distancing guidelines. Set up a time to be in front of your apartment and ask your friends to drive by with balloons and signs.

Netflix Movie Marathon

If you want to keep it more casual, set up a virtual girl’s night and download Netflix Party to watch a movie at the same time. You can chill in your pajamas while eating popcorn and playing drinking games.

Staying positive in the middle of a global pandemic is no easy feat, but there are still many ways you can show kindness – both to people around you and yourself.

Share Positive News

The world may look really grim right now, but there’s still a lot of love and kindness in the world. Instead of getting caught in the spiral of bad news and dreadful statistics, share all the positive stories you stumble upon with your loved ones.

Stay in Touch

Even if you can’t see your loved ones in person, you can still be there for them. Talk to them on a regular basis, and make sure they know they can reach out to you.

Help Out

There are many ways you can help others in these difficult times, from volunteering remotely, to buying groceries for your elderly neighbors when you’re running your own errands.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B1znM2TpJ9p/

Look After Yourself

At the end of the day, the most important thing you should be doing right now is staying safe and healthy at home, because looking after yourself also means looking after everyone else.

Quarantine, but make it fabulous.

A post shared by Mindy Kaling (@mindykaling) on

The Office star kicked off her quarantine like the rest of us – by only dressing up from the waist up for her conference calls. She quickly changed her approach after realizing that fashion distracted her from constantly worrying about the news related to coronavirus.

“Another day, another lewk for me, myself and I to enjoy. I find that fashion has helped me keep my mind off of obsessing online reading every headline about Covid-19… Fashion keeps me happy and uses my mind in other ways,” wrote Kaling on Instagram.

Over the course of the last few weeks, we watched the comedy star rock one adorable outfit after another – not because she needed to, but simply because it made her feel good.

Take a page from her book, and dress up for your next video call, a stroll through the garden, or a short walk down the stairs, and see if fashion has the same positive effect on you.

Even if you’re the only one in your home, it’s nice to get dressed up, make a nice dinner, and to sip on some wine.

Talk About It

Just saying your inner thoughts and feelings out loud can make you feel better and it may help you find a solution to your problems. This includes talking to friends, family, or professionals.

If your birthday is in the next couple of months, chances are you’ll be celebrating it with social distancing guidelines. While your big day may be different than you’re used to, there are still creative ways to celebrate it virtually. Get your birthday candles, best outfit, and champagne ready with these fun party ideas.

Virtual Birthday Party

Decorate your home with party supplies as if you’re friends and family are coming over to celebrate. Gather your balloons, confetti, party hats, and disco balls and have your loved ones do the same. You can even order wine through online subscriptions and your friends can sing you “Happy Birthday” via Zoom while you cheer to your next year of life.
