CEOs and executives from major companies all claim that waking up at 5:00 a.m gives them the drive to get things done. Apple CEO Tim Cook reportedly wakes up before 4:00 a.m., and Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey also opt to wake-up early. But, where does the concept of the 5:00AM Club come from?

The Book

Author Robin Sharma wrote the book The 5 AM Club: Own Your Morning. Elevate Your Life in 2018. The concept for the book is not new though, he created the idea 20 years ago. Essentially, his belief is that those who wake-up at 5:00 a.m. or earlier and spend time working on themselves are more successful. This success comes from three components of a daily morning routine: self-renewal, exercise, and personal growth.

In order to reach your potential, you must commit to the approach of rising before dawn and getting in at least 20 minutes of exercise. From there, you can meditate, journal, or simply do an activity that gives you personal fulfillment outside of the workplace.

The book has many helpful tips for how to get started, and transform your life into a more productive one. All it takes is the willingness to change your routine. Like anything, it is difficult at first but the results will pay off in the long run.

The first step is self-actualization that you need to change. From there you must assess whether or not you use your time productively, and if you don’t why not. Then, you will be ready to begin your journey and become the high achiever you want to be.

At just 23-years-old, gymnast Simone Biles has had to deal with the pressures associated with being a four-time Olympic gold medalist. During a live-stream Masterclass, she discussed mental health advice and gave tips to young gymnasts.

In the live-stream, Biles spoke about how she takes her mental health just as seriously as her physical fitness and how she handles the stress prior to competing.

It turns out the gymnast is a huge fan of therapy, “Before a competition—usually a week or two [before]—I’ll go to therapy to decompress, be in a different atmosphere in a safe place, so I can say whatever I want, say how I’m feeling, [and get out] any negativity,” said Biles. “And it kind of just calms me.”

She also enjoys journaling which is a habit she started as a child after one of her coaches encouraged students to keep a journal to document how they felt their workouts went after practice was over. “I do recommend journaling because it’s a safe spot [to express yourself],” she said. “You can put your thoughts onto paper, however you’re feeling, or your goals, or whatever you want to do.”

Prior to her competitions, the Olympian runs through one last practice, eats healthy foods, gets a good nap, and listens to a playlist with her favorite songs.

Biles also turns away from social media prior to competing because she doesn’t want the pressure to win hanging over her or to disappoint fans. “I just want to make people happy with my gymnastics and bring them joy by them watching me,” she said in the Masterclass.

No matter how long we’ve been working out, there are always days when we want to quit exercising halfway through our routine. During these times, it’s important to have some mental tricks to motivate you to carry on. Before you try these tips, make sure you’re eating nutritiously, staying hydrated, and sleeping well. Here are our go-to mental tricks for you to try out the next time you feel like giving up on your workout.

Create a Playlist

Music can help you workout harder and longer because time flies by when you’re looking forward to hearing the next song on your playlist. Create a track that motivates you and keeps you energized and when you feel like quitting, blast that song that makes you smile.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B9TA6XHJWDo/

Workout With a Friend

If you’re having trouble getting yourself to the gym, ask a friend to go with you. You’ll be less likely to skip your workout and you’ll have a friend to exercise with once you’re there.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B7jbKdRDOkR/

Set a Stopping Point

When you’re in the middle of a run or halfway through a set, it’s easy to stop when you get tired. If you have an end goal in mind, like to run for 30 minutes or a 5K, you’ll be more likely to continue exercising until you’ve reached your set point.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B9P9ZqOJN4D/

Distract Yourself

Cycling or the Stairmaster can get boring quickly, so next time try distracting yourself by counting your steps or how fast you can pedal in a minute. You’ll be too busy to convince yourself to give up.

When you’re a student, each exam season is stressful and every tool you can get your hands on can help tremendously. It’s not easy to focus on studying when there are so many other things you’d rather do, especially when you have to do it alone.

A growing number of students are turning to YouTube to fight this problem, more precisely, they’re watching Study With Me videos. Did you already hear about this phenomenon?

There are many YouTube accounts that create motivational study videos that are just perfect when you need some company for studying. Some of them include various study techniques like Pomodoro, which means they show a person studying for 25 minutes and taking a break for 5 minutes, and repeating the cycle several times. The people videos come with or without music, so you can listen to relaxing study music or study noises like typing on the keyboard and flipping pages.

The community around such accounts is motivational and supporting, and it will help you feel less alone when you have to study or get some work done on your computer. Seeing that some of the videos have millions of views, it’s easy to conclude that Study With Me trend will not go anywhere for a while. Watch a few videos below.

Once you’ve set your fitness goals, the most important part is staying motivated to work hard enough to actually achieve them. This is not always the easiest thing to do, so here are a few tips that’ll help you reach your goals faster.

Exercise Daily

You don’t have to sleep in a gym to be fit, but it’s extremely important to be physically active every single day. You can easily do this by jogging, riding a bike, or simply going for a walk in the evening.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B30twjWAvqB/

Eat Healthily

No matter how hard you try to exercise regularly, you won’t see any results if you don’t stick to a healthy diet. Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables, stay away from junk food and sweets, and plan your meals in advance.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B3zPlX7gjhY/

Get Enough Sleep

Our sleep habits can affect our lives more than we can imagine and getting enough sleep during the night is important if you want to feel motivated and energized for your workout. Try to sleep six to eight hours every night and keep a consistent sleep schedule. This means getting up and going to bed at the same time every day, even on the weekends.

More and more often, working people are expected to feel motivated for work at any given time, but as you probably know very well, it’s not always possible. Life happens and we can’t always just switch off and focus on work instead. If you’re currently feeling unmotivated or like you could use some inspiration and creative energy, try these tips.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BnHCYUFgIkL/

Schedule Creative Time

Working more and harder won’t help you. You’ll benefit from a break, a time you intentionally set for a creative activity you enjoy. Write, paint, go to a museum or read biographies of people you admire, for example.

Interrupt Your Routine

If you’re constantly on your phone or computer, go outside. Call a friend and go for a walk. Cook something. Do anything you don’t usually do on a daily basis and your creative juices will start flowing again.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bl3NG12AXXX/

Talk to a Friend

You’re not a bad friend if you need to vent about difficult things in your life. A real friend will understand and listen to you and you will feel much better afterward. Then you can move on to happier topics and see what’s going on in their life.

Workout With a Friend

If you’re having trouble getting yourself to the gym, ask a friend to go with you. You’ll be less likely to skip your workout and you’ll have a friend to exercise with once you’re there.

Set a Stopping Point

When you’re in the middle of a run or halfway through a set, it’s easy to stop when you get tired. If you have an end goal in mind, like to run for 30 minutes or a 5K, you’ll be more likely to continue exercising until you’ve reached your set point.

While many of them cost money, there are some great free ones available and we’re here to let you in on our three favorite apps.

ThinkUp

This app allows you to choose positive affirmations and to record them with your own voice and add music. By hearing mantras in your own voice, you’re more likely to benefit from them.

iWish

Vision boards have been considered a great way to actualize your dreams and goals and now you can do this virtually with iWish. Create a “bucket list” with your aspirations and track them with the in-app-to-do lists – you’ll achieve your goals before you know it!

Be Focused

Have you ever been overwhelmed by a task? We’ve heard that breaking it down into smaller ones makes it easier to complete it. Be Focused does this for you by dividing the tasks into 25 minutes of work with a five-minute break interval. You can finally say goodbye to procrastination in 2020!

Running for one or two hours is never easy, and sometimes you need a bit of motivation to help you along the way. A great running playlist can boost your energy and help you get through those difficult moments. Take a look at our list of great motivating songs that are perfect for running.

“Let’s Get It Started,” The Black Eyed Peas

“And the base keeps runnin’, runnin’.” If you want to start your run with a beat that’s going to give you enough energy and motivation to do your best – this is the one.

“Under Pressure,” David Bowie & Queen

Is there a better thing to motivate you to try even harder, than the beautiful voices of Freddie Mercury and David Bowie? This duet is probably one of the most powerful songs of all time, so make sure to include it on your playlist.

“I Believe In a Thing Called Love,” The Darkness

This song is so much fun and it’ll definitely motivate you to run the extra mile no matter how tired you are.

“(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” The Rolling Stones

The Rolling Stones are a must-have on your running playlist and it pretty much doesn’t matter which song you choose – they’re all great.

Nice Guys Finish Last, Green Day

This song will remind you that you must not compare yourself to others and you should always run at your own pace.

Eat Healthily

No matter how hard you try to exercise regularly, you won’t see any results if you don’t stick to a healthy diet. Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables, stay away from junk food and sweets, and plan your meals in advance.

Talk to a Friend

You’re not a bad friend if you need to vent about difficult things in your life. A real friend will understand and listen to you and you will feel much better afterward. Then you can move on to happier topics and see what’s going on in their life.
