]]>The first possibility for error comes if you have to convert your recipes from metric system measurements that use weight measurements like grams to the imperial system which uses volume measurements like cups and spoons. All your measuring cups and spoons, won’t do you much good as you’ll have to look up the conversions online and do some rough calculations.
Another option is to weight your ingredients, which is much more accurate anyway. When you start weighing your ingredients, you don’t have to worry about leveling off your flour or packing your brown sugar. A kitchen scale is there to take the guesswork out of baking and to ensure that your baked goods come out perfect every time.
Kitchen scales are a good investment—if you can even call them that— because you can purchase reliable ones from Amazon for around $14.

]]>If you take anything away from this article, don’t use soap, soak it overnight, or put the cast iron skillet in the dishwasher. These will ruin its natural seasoning. To clean it use very hot water and a mild, non-abrasive sponge after each use. For stuck-on bits, use a combination of coarse salt and hot water and scrub it gently before rinsing with hot water. Make sure it’s dry and be sure to get rid of excess water.
Enameled cast iron skillets are easier to clean because they’re coated with a smooth surface. To clean them, wash it with hot, soapy water and to remove stains, bring water to a simmer in the pan on the stove and scrub and rinse with baking soda or dish soap.
Season the pan as often as you want by rubbing a small amount of cooking oil on the inside of the pan with a paper towel or dish cloth. Heat the skillet for an hour in a 350 F oven to build a nonstick surface.

]]>Unless you’re someone who bakes a lot, you probably don’t have a rolling pin on hand! But, if you’re in the mood for some biscuits or pie dough, don’t fret, you can always use a wine bottle! Whether it’s full or empty, the round shape will get the job done in no time.
A whisk is essential for things like pancake batter, making fluffy eggs, but not everyone owns one. The best way to get by without a whisk is to take two forks and tie them together with a rubber band! You can also attach a protein bottle mixer to a fork and use that as a whisk as well.
Whenever you’re using citrus in large quantities like for pies, salad dressings, or marinades, you don’t want to do it by hand. If you don’t have a citrus reamer handy, all you need are some tongs! Just cut the citrus you’re using in half and use the tongs to squeeze out all the juice in a snap.

]]>Also known as a hand blender or an immersion blender, a stick blender is a very specific kind of blender for some people’s lifestyles. Stick blenders are perfect if you are someone who loves to make soups, sauces, or anything that needs to come out really smooth. Stick blenders are really useful because you can blend everything in the vessel it’s cooked in.
If you love to start your day with smoothies, protein shakes, or you just occasionally love a milkshake, a standard blender is just right for you. The standard blender can really do a lot for you without having to spend a lot of money on another appliance.
A food processor is perfect if you love to cook a lot. With a food processor, you can make different nut butters, dips, no-meat nuggets, pie dough; the list really goes on and on. If you are someone who adores throwing things into one machine and letting it rip, food processors are perfect for you.

]]>A salad spinner obviously dries salad greens by spinning them around to get the water out, but they can actually do much more than that. If you have one lying around that hasn’t been used in a while, try using it for these items.
Have you ever made roasted chickpeas and not gotten them quite as crispy as you’d hoped? It’s probably because you didn’t dry them completely. Even if you dab them with a paper towel, water can remain inside, which can cause them to be soggy. So, if you want super crispy chickpeas, drain, rinse, and then toss them in the salad spinner to dry them.
To make herbs last longer, you need to make sure to wash them properly. Throw them into a salad spinner to get off the excess water. This works perfectly for delicate herbs like cilantro, dill, and other ones like them.
This might sound bizarre, but you can actually use a salad spinner as a makeshift washing machine for your delicate items! Just put your bras, underwear, or any other delicates into the spinner with a little laundry detergent or dish soap, spin it around, and then drain it. Spin it again to get rid of the excess water and leave your delicates to hang dry.

]]>Garlic is a perfection addition from everything to sauteed vegetables to pizza, but most people don’t eat it raw. In order to make it easier to eat, make it into a paste in the mortar and pestle! The more you grind it, the creamier it becomes, making it less pungent but still aromatic. Add it into dressings or use it on freshly toasted bread and taste the difference.
Pesto was actually always made in a mortar and pestle until recently, and it’s worked very well for the Italians. Start by crushing the nuts you’re using and then add in the rest of the ingredients. You will find the paste to be probably even smoother than in a processor, and much more flavorful.

Some pans really get the job done better than others, which is why choosing the right pan is so important. A non-stick pan simply makes cooking easier most of the time, saving you a massive headache trying to scrape stuck on food from your beautiful pots and pants. There are so many reasons to buy a non-stick pan that by the time you’re done reading why you need one, you’ll be ordering one online as soon as you can.
Although a non-stick pan won’t add any vitamins or minerals to your food, it will subtract oil and other cooking fats from your food! The reason behind this is because the material allows for food to slide around and not get stuck, which means you don’t need as much or sometimes any oil to lubricate the pan!

Everyone has made scrambled eggs in the morning and even after soaking it all day, still had troubles getting it off the bottom of the pan. With non-stick pans, that will never be the case. Not only with scrambled eggs, fried eggs, but delicate fish like tilapia, quesadillas, and all the food that is prone to sticking will also be a thing of the past!
