]]> One of the most delicious new drinks that Starbucks serves is the deceptively simple sweet cream cold brew. This is simply cold-brewed coffee, served over ice, with sweetened cream mixed in. Sounds easy to master, right? Right! If you’re at a hotel and you don’t know where the nearest Starbucks is, you can make a pretty close version of the drink from right where you are. Here’s how.

  1. Brew whatever coffee is provided to you in the room. If it’s a coffee pot, brew stronger than you usually would. If it’s a machine with coffee pods, brew a couple of pods.
  2. You’ll have to leave the room for this step: getting ice. Head over to the ice machine on your floor and bring back about two cups or more of ice.
  3. Now comes the fun part: sugar. There are two ways to add the “sweet” to your sweet cream cold brew. You can either mix sugar directly into the coffee, or you can make a sugar syrup using a few sugar packets and just enough boiling water to dissolve them.
  4. Pour your strong coffee over ice and mix until it’s room temperature. Then add more ice to make it nice and cold.
  5. Finally, add your cream! Use at least two or more of the creamers provided with the coffee, and if you made sugar syrup, now is the time to mix it in. Start with just a little and put in more to your taste.
  6. Enjoy!

]]> Canada is home to many beautiful cities, but the capital of the province of British Columbia has to be one of the finest. Situated on the shores of the Pacific Ocean, Victoria is home to the legislature, two castles, and a variety of manicured gardens. The finest hotel in the city is the Hotel Fairmont Empress which first opened to the public in 1908. 

The hotel is steeped in history, having been built by the great Cornelius Van Horne. Van Horne is famous for having been the manager of the Canadian Pacific Railway. At the time, there were no luxury hotels along the route the train took, and Van Horne took it upon himself to build these. The Empress is the crowning jewel of his hotel line. 

The hotel itself has 464 rooms which offer views of the picture perfect inner harbor, the gardens around the hotel, and the quaint city of Victoria. The rooms are designed to look both modern, and with a touch of the past. Prices start at $250.

The Amenities

The hotel itself has The Bengal Lounge for cocktails, and the restaurant hosts seasonal dinners, along with a daily afternoon tea. If you want to feel like royalty for a day or a weekend then head over to the Empress for a nice city getaway.

]]> Claridge’s is a luxury hotel in London located in the famous Mayfair district. Each year around this time, a famous designer decorates a Christmas tree for the hotel’s lobby. It started with John Galliano in 2009, last year the honors went to Diane von Furstenberg, and this year we have a chance to see the creation of famous shoe designer Christian Louboutin.

The tree is 16 feet tall and decorated with red and gold bubbles, shiny lamps, faux snow, shoe-shaped cookies, while the golden crown sits on the top. The tree is just as elegant as your average pair of Louboutins, just in the Christmas spirit.

Next to the tree, the designer placed The Loubi Express train and wrapped gifts are all around the room. “I am glad to bring a little piece of Paris to such an iconic London landmark,” the designer told Vogue.

]]> Scrolling through people’s holiday pics on Instagram is a mixed bag. On the one hand, Googling beautiful beaches and plush hotels is excellent fantasy material. On the other hand, watching some girl you once sat behind in class enjoying a Pina Colada in Cancun while you take a two minute work break is a little painful.
