It’s almost October, and you know what that means. If you’re on the East Coast you’re probably whipping out your fall-scented candles and Halloween decorations by now. As the leaves begin to fall and change colors, we’ve got you covered with a list of the most beautiful places to see fall foliage on your next road trip.

1. Vermont

Vermont is famous for more than maple syrup and skiing. The picturesque state is home to many hikes, small towns, and mountains that are just bursting with color. Be sure to check out Mount Mansfield, Vermont’s highest peak, and revel in the view.

2. New Hampshire

Tune up your favorite fall playlist, and start your drive on The Kancamagus Highway. As you drive through the White Mountain National Forest, watch the leaves fall and the mountains glow in hues of red and orange. Along this route, you’ll find several overlooks, hikes, and attractions.

3. Maine

Enjoy some of the finest coastal scenery that New England has to offer by starting your journey in Portland, and driving along Route 1, for some views of lighthouses and old mansions. Continue north for about 160 miles until you hit Acadia National Park, and take in the breathtaking foliage.

When out and about recently, you may have noticed a slight chill in the air. There’s no doubt about it, fall is on its way. If you’re looking for some sleek, stylish, but most importantly, warm, coat styles, read on for three of the best this season.

Insulated Trench

Is there a more classic, chic style than the trench? With its belted waist, statement lapels, and long, flowing style, this coat has been in every season, practically since fashion began. It’s one drawback is its warmth – once the weather really closes in, a traditional trench is useless against the biting winds and snow. This is why you should consider investing in an insulated trench, a coat with the classic outer layer, but with hidden internal layers which help to keep you warm. If you’re struggling to find a trench with these insulating layers attached, try a thin gilet worn under the coat for a temperature boost.

Bomber Jacket

Some outfits demand to be shown off, and in these situations, you want an outer layer that won’t swamp you and hide your carefully curated clothes. In these cases, a bomber jacket is an excellent choice. Forever cool, cropped to the waist, and able to fend off the wind and rain, this jacket style is a must-have in your wardrobe.

Duvet Coat

A quick glance at the catwalks confirms that when it comes to coat styles, this season it’s the puffier, the better. Keep yourself really warm (and cocooned against the city) with a full-length, triple-layered duvet coat. The best part about this style is that, if you’re just popping out somewhere, you really don’t need to think about the outfit underneath the coat, as no one is going to see it.

Autumn is in full swing and there’s no better activity to accompany your leaf-stomping and rainy day gazing out of the window than listening to music. Here are three perfect albums to play while you watch the leaves change and enjoy your pumpkin spice latte.

Bon Iver, For Emma, Forever Ago

This album was recorded in a remote hunting cabin in Northwest Wisconsin and if that doesn’t sound like the most fall thing you’ve ever heard of, we don’t know what to tell you.

It’s haunting and beautiful, longing, melancholic, bittersweet, yes somehow comforting, just like the gloomy autumn weather.

Taylor Swift, Red

Taylor Swift’s magnum opus of a 16-song album (22 on the deluxe version), Red, represents Swift at her best, experimenting with genres as diverse as stadium rock and dubstep on top of her usual country. Lots of songs feel like fall, including “State of Grace,” “Treacherous,” and “Sad Beautiful Tragic,” but no song is more autumn than “All Too Well” with its famously artful lyrics including, “Autumn leaves falling down like pieces into place.”

Simon and Garfunkel, Sounds of Silence

Melancholic, wistful, and poignant, Sounds of Silence practically announces itself as an autumn album, starting with the lyrics “Hello darkness, my old friend,” and going on to describe that the “leaves that are green turn to brown.” Sounds like the perfect soundtrack to a rainy day drive.

This year has been crazy in so many ways and it’s only natural to be glad it’s going to be over soon. We’re all hoping for a fresh start once 2021 comes, but for now, we get to enjoy the change of season and all the good things it brings.

Fall is the season when everything changes. It can be a magical time that allows you to reevaluate your life and self-reflect. There’s a good reason you’re excited about it and it’s not just the weather finally getting more pleasant.

Fall comes with plenty of symbolism and things we traditionally do this time of year. If you don’t have your own garden to harvest the food you’ve been taking care of all year, maybe you can harvest the results of some other effort. Falling leaves can represent letting things go and it’s a good thing to do every year at the same time.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CGGi8YsFP8O/

Fall is traditionally the time when the new school year starts and we all may feel the urge to start a new job or learn a new skill once this season comes. Since we’re going to stay home more this fall, it may be the perfect time for those things.

Once the summer ends and the days get cold, we switch from cold, refreshing beverages to hot, creamy drinks that smell as delicious as they taste. Fall and winter are the perfect seasons to enjoy mulled wine, hot chocolate, and cinnamon latte, but you should also check out these cocktails.

Apple Pie Cocktail

Mix vanilla-flavored liqueur and apple cider to create this wonderful drink that’s perfect for cold fall afternoons. If you want, you can decorate it with cream and a bit of cinnamon. Make sure to serve in a nice glass so you’ll feel extra fancy.

Pumpkin Martini

You can make a delicious pumpkin cocktail by using vanilla-flavored vodka, cream liqueur, and pumpkin liqueur (ration 4:1:1). Decorate with cream and brown sugar and enjoy!

https://www.instagram.com/p/CGF-f0SAf9k/

Fall Sangria

You can mix white wine with green tea, pomegranate juice, a bit of brandy and gin, and add seasonal fruits to get the perfect fall sangria. Decorate with apple and orange slices and don’t forget to sprinkle some cinnamon for taste. You can use the whole bottle of white wine here and make a punch-like cocktail for your friends or family.

The beginning of fall brings that cozy feeling that can’t be recreated at any other time of year. In the U.S., as well as many other countries, fall is the perfect mix of coziness and nostalgia and there’s a psychological reason we love it so much.

As Amy Jane Griffiths, Ph.D., a licensed psychologist and Chapman University professor told Bustle, “we all crave the comfort and security that comes with traditions and predictability. They may relate to joyful experiences with friends and family and provide something to look forward to.” By this, she means things like holidays, going back to school, or other seasonal events.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CFhhOshjK6n/

Colder weather is biologically motivating people to seek warmth and comfort. The fall weather is a perfect balance between cold (but not too cold) and comfortable, especially after a long, hot summer.

This is, of course, not true for all people and largely depends on individual experiences. There are plenty of people who get seasonal affective disorder and experience depression over fall and winter. They don’t enjoy the fall holidays, because they remind them of something that bothers them.

What’s your opinion on fall? Are you among those who can’t wait for it to get or would you rather sleep through fall and winter and wake up to the warmth of spring?

There are so many things we love about fall and if we had to think of a few, they’d be all the amazing seasonal foods that come along this time of year. What’s even better about these foods is that they’ll keep you healthy all season long as they’re packed with nutrients that’ll boost your immune system.

Pomegranates

Besides for being super juicy and messy, pomegranates have immune-supporting nutrients like Vitamin C that can prevent growth of bacteria and virus. So go ahead and enjoy some refreshing pomegranate juice.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CEV9JpoCPk1/

Sweet Potatoes

Who doesn’t love sweet potato fries? The best part about sweet potatoes is that they’re loaded with antioxidants and Vitamin A, which support immune health.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CERk4AjFPrp/

Cranberries

One of our favorite Thanksgiving foods is cranberry sauce and cranberries happen to have Vitamin C and polyphenols that support immune health.

Pumpkins

There’s nothing that describes fall more than pumpkins and they happen to be loaded with beta carotene and Vitamin C. Like we needed more reasons to sip on pumpkin spice lattes and to enjoy a slice of pumpkin pie!

Fall is the perfect time to spend some time in your home and get creative. You’ll be amazed at how many great things you can create using only items that Mother Nature has gifted us. When we think about fall we picture all the amazing leaves, so we came up with five amazing DIY projects to try this season.

Leaf Lanterns

These charming lanterns are the perfect way to decorate your home and create a cozy atmosphere this fall.

View this post on Instagram

I saw these leaf lanterns on a few Instagram accounts and decided to make them with the children using the leaves we picked up at the woods the other day. I didn’t have balloons so I made a cylinder shaped one like @onthecovehomeschool.It was so much fun and a perfect autumn craft. It’s also leaf weak in #exploringnaturewithchildren so it should tie in nicely with our nature study on Friday. . . Talking about Instagram accounts, the homeschooling community here is very strong, supportive, and terrifically inspiring. Homeschooling can get really lonely and having to explain the choices you make for your children on a regular basis is exhausting. But over here is different. Seeing pictures and videos of homeschooled children gathered in schoolrooms and around dining tables is so comforting and familiar. . . I’ve saved the steps to make this lantern in my highlights in case you want to make it too. . . . . #exploringnaturewithchildren #enwcleavesweek #autumncrafts #craftingwithleaves #leaflantern #muslimmum #muslimhomeschool

Leaf Candle Holders

Use old and forgotten jars to create adorable candle holders – all you have to do is add fall leaves to them.

https://www.instagram.com/p/t8awWYHTis/

Leaves Garland

This is an easy and cheap DIY project – you only need to collect leaves, add a lot of glitter, and create a decorative garland for your room.

Decoupaged Pumpkins

Fall is all about leaves and pumpkins, so why not use both these items to create art. Apply leaves to pumpkins using decoupage technique and you’ll have an adorable centerpiece for your table.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bohg_bpgcIH/

Leaf Art

With a bit of imagination and creativity, you can use pressed leaves to create beautiful artwork. Frame your creations and hang them on the wall so everyone can admire them.

Colder and shorter days are a certain sign that autumn is definitely here. This means we’re soon going to be wearing sweaters, boots, and other warm clothes, so make sure your closet is prepared before that happens.

Clean Out Your Wardrobe

In order to make space for your fall clothes, you need to edit your closet first! Go through your wardrobe and throw away anything that you know you won’t be wearing in the future. Keeping clothes that no longer fit or that you don’t like anymore is useless, so make sure you sell them or donate them to charity.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BzDPlHLFXoG/

Identify What You Have

Go through your fall/winter wardrobe and take a good look at the clothes you have. Make a list of all the items you need for the upcoming season, so you don’t spend money on unnecessary things when you go shopping.

Be On a Budget

Believe it or not, you can refresh your wardrobe without breaking the bank. Some of your summer clothes, like maxi dresses, can be adjusted and worn during fall and winter days and you can also take advantage of discounts and second-hand stores when shopping.

Autumn is such an exciting season. The color range for this time of the year is always beyond beautiful and inspiring. These are some gorgeous fall wreath ideas that will make your front door the coolest one in the neighborhood.

It’s All About Yellow

Autumn is the season when warm yellow shades will be everywhere. You can focus on yellow flowers for your wreath and the end result will be gorgeous. Add some green details in between to make it more eye-catching.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B2IlDl9Fcm2/

Gingham For Fall

Whatever type of flowers you decide to opt for, gingham is a great way to upgrade a wreath. By adding a statement large bow you will make it look so much more expensive and store-bought.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B2IgUULHo3V/

It’s All About Imagination

You don’t have to opt for the classic wreath design. Feel free to escape the pattern and put your imagination to use. These wooden balls look like a great way to start. You can go for artificial flowers for the final touches.

Pumpkin Time

Pumpkin everything! Get ready to see so many pumpkins this season literally on every step of your way. You can find small and cute ones to decorate your fall wreath as well.

Sweet Potatoes

Who doesn’t love sweet potato fries? The best part about sweet potatoes is that they’re loaded with antioxidants and Vitamin A, which support immune health.

Gingham For Fall

Whatever type of flowers you decide to opt for, gingham is a great way to upgrade a wreath. By adding a statement large bow you will make it look so much more expensive and store-bought.
