]]>Many people in the creative field believe that passion and creativity is all you need, but this is so far from the case. In order to have a creative ground to walk on, you must have the technique to back it up. In order to compose a song, you have to be able to play an instrument. In order to paint a beautiful masterpiece, you have to be able to… well, paint.
For some reason, many seem to associate technique with being robotic and cold. To be fair, it’s true that technique without passion can result in advanced, yet soulless work. However, that doesn’t mean you’re supposed to neglect the importance of technical skill as a result. The importance is to work on both, and find a way to seamlessly blend the two as one.

]]>You don’t need anything fancy to get your craft on! Paints, coloring pencils, felt tips and pastels, colored paper, wool, felt, sequins, beads—whatever you can get your hands on or that you have lying around. Raiding your kids’ art supplies is also never a bad idea!
Pick a project or a theme as a blank piece of paper can be intimidating to even the most seasoned of artists. Check out Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok for easy craft and design project ideas or take votes on what the theme should be. You could even just explore colors and shapes.
A crafternoon should be all about having fun. The conversation flows when your hands are busy and working on a creative task can be fantastic for de-stressing. Don’t worry about the outcomes, just focus on the experience and enjoy!

]]>We’re not going to sit here and say that practice doesn’t make perfect. Refining your technical skills is crucial to improving your craft, but there are other important things as well.
If all you do is practice and never take a step back, you may be wandering aimlessly with no true direction. By traveling abroad and taking a break from your rigorous schedule, you may come to new realizations that’ll spark your creative flow like never before.
When art is at its best, it reflects upon life itself. This is why consumers are touched by a poignant song, or a vivid painting—because they experienced something in their own past that allows them to identify with it.
Traveling around the world is a great way to not just get to know yourself, but also the world around you. Listening to the flow of the streetcars of Barcelona, or the waves of sunny California, impacts the way your brush stroke hits the canvas.
Life and art are connected to one another, and this is why we believe that your creativity will definitely improve if you travel!

]]>How many times have you thought or said that you simply don’t have the talent for painting? The good news is that talent is pretty overrated here and that it takes time and effort to learn how to paint, just like with any other skill. Just give it a try!
Whatever creative work you’re doing, the continuity is crucial. You need to keep creating in order to find inspiration for new things, while your works simultaneously get better week after week.
When you’re first trying out a hobby, you never know if you will stick to it. That’s why it’s important not to overspend on the supplies so you won’t feel guilty about not using them as much as you’ve thought. You can easily upgrade your equipment later if you want to improve your work.

]]>Are you aware of how much information you consume in one day? So much consumption can be overwhelming and make your brain incapable of coming up with original, creative ideas. Start slowing the consumption down little by little if you can’t do it at once.
There are infinite options available on the internet but you should aim to consume the content that you want to create. Studying the field you want to thrive in can be very beneficial.
The creative process should be fun! Allow yourself to play and take your time — think about how a kid would do it.

]]>When you’re first trying to find time to do some drawing, painting, playing music or other creative activity, it helps if you set a timer for no longer than 15 minutes. Doing it for a little bit every day will help you set the habit.
For a while, don’t focus on the end result, but only on the process. It’s supposed to make you happy while you’re doing it, and practicing regularly will help you produce better work overtime.
Whether you prefer physical papers in a folder or a Pinterest board, browsing through the work of others and saving your favorite things will help you create a pool of inspiration for when you need it!

]]>Avery is a teacher, writer, and illustrator from Perth, Australia, but he’s also a sculptor who uses old, recycled materials to create breathtaking works of art. He collects electronic waste, mostly discarded CD’s and DVD’s, and then glues them to the wire mesh frames in order to create his intricate animal sculptures.
“My sculptures are all constructed with recycled materials — old CDs, computer hard drives, etc, so I classify my work as “sustainable art.” They’re a lot of fun to make, but they take an extremely long time to finish, so I don’t do a lot of them,” the artist commented on his work.
Avery’s art shows us that every item in this world has value and purpose – we just have to be creative and discover their beauty.

If you’re constantly on your phone or computer, go outside. Call a friend and go for a walk. Cook something. Do anything you don’t usually do on a daily basis and your creative juices will start flowing again.
You’re not a bad friend if you need to vent about difficult things in your life. A real friend will understand and listen to you and you will feel much better afterward. Then you can move on to happier topics and see what’s going on in their life.

]]>Creating can mean physically making something, such as art, photography, or anything else in that realm. But creating can also be something emotional, like creating time for yourself to do certain activities or meditations, or creating more meaningful activities. The idea is to take some time away from consuming information and putting it into practice or finding your own new ways to learn and create.
When we create, we build within ourselves more confidence and a sense of pride. Alternatively, when we consume too much, we can start to feel bad about ourselves, whether it’s feelings of inadequacy or self-consciousness. But when we create more, we do it in a way that directly makes us happy because we’re doing things that we value instead of seeing someone else do something we wish we could do or be.
