No matter what size your kitchen is, you want to make it a comfortable and happy place to cook and, of course, functional. Even if your kitchen is small, it doesn’t have to feel small—you can make little changes to give your kitchen a larger feel, so you can enjoy family time. Try these four design ideas to maximize the space that you have.

Open Shelves

Not only does open shelving give you the illusion of a bigger space, but it also gives you easier access to your items, and they aren’t cluttering the counter space. You can put them between your cupboards or on a wall that is empty space. Work with what you have to create the kitchen you want to cook in.

White Everything

Having a totally white kitchen, from top to bottom, can also make the kitchen look more spacious than it is, and it also creates a sleeker, cleaner look. You can add some wood details or black door handles to give it a more modern look.

Build a Kitchen Island

For those who love to cook, you can never have enough counter space to chop or prepare, so why not build yourself a kitchen island? You can use it for more storage underneath. You can even add on some wheels so you can move it around for more space when you aren’t using it.

Add Some Color

Adding some bright color for the top shelves and cabinets and keeping the bottom white, can also give the feeling of a bigger kitchen. The brighter the color the grander it will feel!

It’s no longer about making the simple foods you normally make in the oven—people are getting inventive and these dishes will help you to start making more interesting meals. Here are four foods you need to cook in your air fryer.

Brussel Sprouts

As Thanksgiving is around the corner, there are so many recipes for Brussel Sprouts and those made in the air fryer are extra special. You can add bread crumbs, balsamic vinegar, parmesan, olive oil, garlic, and rosemary. There are so many flavors to try that you will be spoilt for choice.

Pasta

Yes pasta, this trend turns pasta into chips by putting them in the air fryer. You can add anything to them to spice up the flavor, herbs, spices, and some cheese, and they will make a great addition to dips and salsas.

Just like you would make them in an oven, you can now make these delicious sides with any stuffing you want. Add some bacon, cheese, sauces, or vegetables of your choice. You need to bake them in the air fryer until they are tender, then cut them in half lengthways, scoop out the middles, and add them to a bowl with whatever fillings you desire. Then put them back in the air fryer to cook!

The air fryer is one of the most useful kitchen appliances that is definitely worth the investment because it’ll save you time and energy in the kitchen. In case you’re new to air frying,  here are some common beginner mistakes to avoid.

Using Too Much Oil

For most air fryers, only one or two teaspoons of oil will be enough to cook tasty meals, so don’t make the mistake of using too much oil.

Only Using it to Make Fried Food

Most people don’t know that the air fryer can be used for so much more than just frying food. Use this kitchen appliance to make hard-boiled eggs, gnocchi, ravioli, or tasty desserts such as lava cakes or chocolate chip cookies.

You Don’t Preheat Your Air Fryer

Don’t forget to give your air fryer at least five minutes to heat to the proper temperature in order to cook delicious and crispy dishes.

Not Reheating Food in the Air Fryer

Keep in mind that your air fryer is much more versatile than you think and it can save you a lot of time and trouble in the kitchen. The air fryer can be pretty useful for reheating leftovers like meat or fries in just a few minutes.

Ramen can be a great snack or a nice budget meal for rainy days. But what if you only have the noodles or you want the most popular flavor, chicken, but all you have is prawn? Luckily, it’s super easy to make ramen broth from scratch! Here’s how to make your own broth at home.

The first three ingredients you’ll need are chicken stock (powder is just fine), fresh garlic, and soy sauce. Chicken stock will be your base, so start by boiling some in a pot. Use a heaping tablespoon of powder if that’s what you’re using. Don’t use too much or it will be too salty.

Crush 3 or more cloves of garlic and add to the pot. If you don’t have fresh, use garlic powder. If you like some extra zing, fresh ginger or ginger powder are a delicious addition to make a more authentic broth. This is also very soothing if you aren’t feeling well.

Finally, add your soy sauce. Start with a teaspoon and add more to taste. This is what will provide you with the umami flavor that defines ramen. If you like, try adding a bit of sesame oil and green onions on top.

Now you can add your noodles, and try dropping in a raw egg to cook for some protein. Enjoy!

What’s summer without grilling? It’s time to treat your family to a day in nature with a BBQ feast, but make sure you’re prepared for the trip with our best tips to make grilling easier than ever.

Clean the Grill with Tin Foil

It’s time to toss that old grill brush and replace it with ordinary tin foil. Take some foil and make a ball out of it. Then, secure it with a pair of tongs and use it to clean the dirt off of the cooking surface.

Keep Burgers Moist

You can keep the patties from drying out by placing small ice cubes on raw burgers. Let them cook that way so they retain moisture and stay perfect by the time you serve them.

Use Two Skewers

Using two skewers will give you more control over the meat and veggies as you flip them. Using only one skewer can lead to your food twirling around, but two skewers will ensure even cooking and perfect outcome.

Roast Bell Peppers

You can roast bell peppers directly over the heat. Let each side cook for a few minutes, transfer to a clean dish and let cool down. You’ll soon be able to remove the pepper skin and have a delicious side dish.

In case you love spending time in the kitchen and preparing delicious meals, here are a few basic kitchen skills to learn in order to up your cooking game and stay safe in the kitchen.

How to Care for Knives

Learning a few simple tricks for maintaining your kitchen knives will prolong their life and, most importantly, keep you safe in the kitchen. For example, it’s useful to know how to sharpen a knife because dull knives can be unsafe, and this skill is easier to learn than it sounds.

The Perfect Pasta

It doesn’t matter if you like eating pasta or not, preparing tasty pasta is something everyone must know. This is one of the easiest meals to cook and it’s usually one of those go-to meals we prepare when we don’t have too much time, so it’s a pretty useful skill to learn.

Mastering Knife Skills

Learning some basic knife skills like mincing or dicing is a must if you like cooking and want to improve your cooking. Not only because your knife skills will make you a better cook and ease your meal prep, but because it’ll minimize the risk of injuries in the kitchen.

It’s not possible to bake a nice cake or cookies without baking powder, or is it? Next time you’re craving something sweet but can’t find any baking powder in your kitchen, consider using one of these great substitutions instead.

Cream of Tartar

As an acidic byproduct of fermenting grapes in the wine-making process, cream of tartar is the safest baking powder substitution you can find. Use 1/4 teaspoon baking soda and 1/2 a teaspoon cream of tartar to replace 1 teaspoon of baking powder.

Buttermilk

Thanks to its acidity, this fermented dairy product can also be used instead of baking powder. To substitute 1 teaspoon baking powder, you can use 1/2 cup buttermilk with 1/4 teaspoon baking soda.

Sour Milk

There is a great way to put sour milk to good use. 1/2 cup of sour milk combined with 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda will have the same effect as 1 teaspoon baking powder.

Vinegar and lemon juice

This may sound strange, but vinegar and lemon juice can also be a great substitute for baking powder. It’s worth mentioning that their distinctive flavor will probably change the flavor of your baked dish, so think twice before you use them instead of baking powder.

If you’re a fan of all things cooking, chances are you’ve come across an Alison Roman recipe. A columnist for the New York Times cooking section, and with two of her recipes actually breaking the internet (the first for cookies, the second for stew), Roman has made her mark on our taste buds.

Part of her recipes’ charm lies in their straightforwardness. According to Roman, it all boils down to making other people happy. “I’m not looking to reinvent the wheel every time,” she shared in an interview with The New Consumer where she talked about her life and work philosophy. “I just want to make people happy, honestly, and give them a reason to feel good about making food.”

The writer and author of the New York Times bestseller Nothing Fancy and the bestseller Dining In, people are clearly tuning into her message. “I’m trying to be more accessible and more everyday for that,” she explains, “I think it’s nice to be able to, in the same book, publish a recipe for lamb shoulder and also for a sheet pan chicken. And both belong in the same book because I want the book to have a range.”

Some of her recent recipes shared on social media include crispy buttered turmeric Rice and Matzo Brie. Follow her online platforms for more:

In dire need of some food inspo? We recommend following Frankie Unsworth’s Instagram page. Our latest Insta crush, Unsworth works in arguably the best job—food and props styling. Which means she’s constantly surrounded but beautiful and, more importantly scrumptious, dishes.

Based in London, Unsworth’s job title also means she gets to travel a lot, at least when traveling is permitted. According to her bio, she has lived so far in France, Italy, Australia, and Argentina (on top of England).

“My wanderlust was inspired by my parents,” she admitted once in an interview with Khoollect. She recalls traveling around the world by the age of seven. “I think their boldness rubbed off on me and gave me the guts to move around as much as I did in my 20s,” she adds.

The best part? Being inspired by different cultures and kitchens. “From a food perspective, all the traveling has definitely influenced me and given me a greater knowledge of different cuisines and customs,” says Unsworth.

Follow her on Instagram for more, and peek into her latest book,  The New Art of Cooking for some added magic.

Andy Baraghani has been with Bon Apetit magazine for quite some time, where he is a senior editor and an out and proud gay man. He makes many videos with Bon Apetit where he shows us how to make his own recipes as he experiments with and perfects them.

Loving Life Farm

This is a smaller and less professional channel, which is part of its charm. Its origins are as a recipe channel, where a gay woman named Victoria shared delicious recipes that she created. She still shares recipes, but now the channel focuses more on her family including her wife, child, and pet snakes.

The Gay Chef

Jordan Bruno, known on his Youtube channel as simply “The Gay Chef”, was a former contestant on a cooking competition show where he placed third. He is now involved in LGBTQ activism in Australia, and as a Youtuber makes unique recipes that are definitely worth trying out.
