]]> The pandemic has changed the way we live, work, and work out. It has also changed the way we dress. Having spent so much of the last year quarantined at home also meant ditching office wear and seeking comfort. But with more of us fully vaccinated and the world slowly returning to a new normal, we have also started shedding our pajamas and sweat pants. Summer fashion—we’re ready for you!

According to fashion experts, this summer is all about flowy, flowery dresses, bright, happy colors, and luxe fabrics. One brand that knocks it out of the ballpark when it comes to summer fashion is Andrea Iyamah. Founded in 2011 by Nigerian fashion designer Andrea Dumebi Iyamah, the brand has gained some well-deserved attention online, thanks to its ideal treatment of the female body. Iyamah’s clothes have also been featured in publications like Vogue, Forbes, InStyle, and Huff Post, meaning she’s embraced by both fashionistas and fashion writers.

Coming from Nigeria, Iyamah’s brand celebrates African culture through its choice of patterns, textures, and colors. “My Nigerian roots are quite a part and parcel of me that it comes quite natural to include some elements that portray the culture,” explained the brand owner n an interview with The Folklore. “Nigerians are energetic, vibrant, and confident which are elements that are evident in A.I. designs. Also having our flagship A.I. studio, and operating out of there, keeps the inspiration fresh and relevant.”

Her formal fashion education also, naturally, plays a role in her collections. “I always had an affinity to art and design of all kinds, but clothing design really kicked off when I was in university,” she explains. “Having a formal education and vocational skills were very important, so the challenge was balancing both without losing on either.”

]]> In the past decade, thrifting has gone from a small, niche thing that some people even felt ashamed of doing to a full-blown phenomenon. But not every city has good, affordable thrift stores in it, so what other options for convenient secondhand shopping do you have? Enter: clothing swaps.

There’s a lot of different ways to do a clothing swap. You can get a group of your friends together to meet up for one swap session in which everybody brings clothes they don’t wear anymore and can take home up to as many items as they bring. Or you can do it digitally, starting a group chat where people can post photos of items they’re willing to give away, coordinating exchanges one-on-one with whoever is interested in a particular item.

However you decide to do your clothing swap, it’s a great way to refresh your wardrobe while being environmentally-friendly. Plus it has the benefit of encouraging you to clear your closet of anything you’re not showing much love to for somebody else to enjoy and get more use out of. Best of all, you can make a whole night of it with some music and wine and runway walks.

Launched in 2014 by husband and wife duo Ingrida Margelė and Airidas Margelis, the brand has quickly risen to internet fame, thanks to their well-made clothes that are meant to be durable, without compromising on your ethics or breaking the bank.

All linen garments are made locally, using only toxic-free, Oeko-tex certified linen, with the brand adhering to fair trade principles. “Our brand is inspired by nature and movement,” shared Margelė in an interview with the Etsy blog, explaining that “comfort is important to us. We make functional garments that are suitable for a wide range of occasions.”

Indeed, their quality linen can be worn for any and every activity: from cycling and playing outdoors to formal events. “Our clothes can be used for gardening, traveling, or shopping at the market,” explains Margelė. “But the same garment, if dressed up a bit, could be worn for a formal occasion. There are so many things we have to do in our lives, why not have a staple that works well for numerous occasions?”

With almost 50k followers on Instagram to date, their fashion statement hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Ban Shopping

The most essential step is to stop bringing more stuff home. Don’t do an extreme declutter which will lead to more shopping once you realize you’re left with nothing. Instead, go through your stuff and organize them so you can see how you can get more use out of what you already own.

Be Mindful

This doesn’t mean you can’t shop for anything ever. Before buying something, make sure it’s an item you really need and can use in various combinations. Whenever you can, buy an item of high quality that will last you for a long time and avoid short-term trends.

]]> The pandemic has changed the way we live, work, and work out. It has also changed the way we dress. Having spent so much of the last year quarantined at home also meant ditching office wear and seeking comfort. But with more of us fully vaccinated and the world slowly returning to a new normal, we have also started shedding our pajamas and sweat pants. Summer fashion—we’re ready for you!

According to fashion experts, this summer is all about flowy, flowery dresses, bright, happy colors, and luxe fabrics. One brand that knocks it out of the ballpark when it comes to summer fashion is Andrea Iyamah. Founded in 2011 by Nigerian fashion designer Andrea Dumebi Iyamah, the brand has gained some well-deserved attention online, thanks to its ideal treatment of the female body. Iyamah’s clothes have also been featured in publications like Vogue, Forbes, InStyle, and Huff Post, meaning she’s embraced by both fashionistas and fashion writers.

Coming from Nigeria, Iyamah’s brand celebrates African culture through its choice of patterns, textures, and colors. “My Nigerian roots are quite a part and parcel of me that it comes quite natural to include some elements that portray the culture,” explained the brand owner n an interview with The Folklore. “Nigerians are energetic, vibrant, and confident which are elements that are evident in A.I. designs. Also having our flagship A.I. studio, and operating out of there, keeps the inspiration fresh and relevant.”

Her formal fashion education also, naturally, plays a role in her collections. “I always had an affinity to art and design of all kinds, but clothing design really kicked off when I was in university,” she explains. “Having a formal education and vocational skills were very important, so the challenge was balancing both without losing on either.”

There’s a lot of different ways to do a clothing swap. You can get a group of your friends together to meet up for one swap session in which everybody brings clothes they don’t wear anymore and can take home up to as many items as they bring. Or you can do it digitally, starting a group chat where people can post photos of items they’re willing to give away, coordinating exchanges one-on-one with whoever is interested in a particular item.

However you decide to do your clothing swap, it’s a great way to refresh your wardrobe while being environmentally-friendly. Plus it has the benefit of encouraging you to clear your closet of anything you’re not showing much love to for somebody else to enjoy and get more use out of. Best of all, you can make a whole night of it with some music and wine and runway walks.

So who needs to even leave the house to go all the way to a thrift store after all?

Launched in 2014 by husband and wife duo Ingrida Margelė and Airidas Margelis, the brand has quickly risen to internet fame, thanks to their well-made clothes that are meant to be durable, without compromising on your ethics or breaking the bank.

All linen garments are made locally, using only toxic-free, Oeko-tex certified linen, with the brand adhering to fair trade principles. “Our brand is inspired by nature and movement,” shared Margelė in an interview with the Etsy blog, explaining that “comfort is important to us. We make functional garments that are suitable for a wide range of occasions.”

Indeed, their quality linen can be worn for any and every activity: from cycling and playing outdoors to formal events. “Our clothes can be used for gardening, traveling, or shopping at the market,” explains Margelė. “But the same garment, if dressed up a bit, could be worn for a formal occasion. There are so many things we have to do in our lives, why not have a staple that works well for numerous occasions?”

With almost 50k followers on Instagram to date, their fashion statement hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Ban Shopping

The most essential step is to stop bringing more stuff home. Don’t do an extreme declutter which will lead to more shopping once you realize you’re left with nothing. Instead, go through your stuff and organize them so you can see how you can get more use out of what you already own.

Be Mindful
