In the past few years, ugly Christmas sweater parties have blown up in popularity, with attendees making an effort to show up in the gaudiest and most ridiculous Christmas sweater they can find. Most people borrow sweaters from their grandparents or search through the options at their local thrift store.

But if you want to avoid going to in-person thrift stores because of COVID-19 this year—and/or you’re looking for a fun DIY project to do during quarantine—making your own ugly Christmas sweater is a great winter activity that lets you get creative and have a few laughs.

There’s no limit to what you can do with a DIY ugly sweater, but here are some ideas to get your creative juices flowing.

Stocking and Wreath Sweaters

For this project, you’ll only need a sweater/vest, scissors, hot glue, needle, thread, and a variety of Christmas decorations.
