Organizing a yard sale is one of the most profitable ways to get rid of stuff you no longer need, but it’s easier said than done. Here are some common mistakes you should avoid if you’re thinking of making this step.

Bad Marketing

Posting signs in your neighborhood won’t cover it if you want a lot of people showing up. Hardcore yardies are using Facebook groups, Craigslist and community bulletin boards to find new sales, and you should be putting them to some good use.

No Clear Prices

You have to be open to negotiations during yard sales, but if you don’t want to spend the whole day answering questions about the prices, mark them right away. Keep in mind some people are too shy to ask you every time.

Out Of Change

You should have a plenty of small bills and coins at the beginning of your sale so you could give everyone their change. Don’t underestimate the importance of this step, because you may lose a lot of money in the process.

Poor Presentation

No one likes digging through strangers’ stuff, and people coming to your yard sale are no different. Make sure to display your items in a presentable way, to make shopping experience more enjoyable for everyone who might show up. A good garage sale sign is also a must!
