Feeling like an imposter is something many of us have experienced. It’s most common in the professional world, when you start feeling like you don’t belong at a certain place and that somebody will realize you’re “faking it” pretty soon. Of course, we realize that this feeling doesn’t represent reality, but it can be hard to be sure of that when you start feeling insecure and incompetent. Here’s how you can get past it.

Acknowledge Your Feelings

It’s important to acknowledge your feelings and identify why you’re feeling them. Sometimes it’s easy to recognize why you’re feeling like an imposter if you give yourself a chance. Talking to a person you trust is also a good idea.

Feelings are Not Facts

Once you’ve identified your feelings, it’s important to distinguish them from the facts. If you don’t do this, it’s easy to start believing the things you feel even though they may have nothing in common with reality.

Fight Back

Whenever you feel overwhelmed with self-doubt, take time to actively fight back. For every negative thought, come up with a positive one that proves you wrong. Remember those conscious thoughts and get back to them whenever you need some encouragement.

Planning and preparing to do something makes the process of actually doing it so much easier. Planning is the key to productivity and here are some tips to have the most productive week ever. You can reuse it any time you need a boost in performance.

Prep Ahead

Devote the last hour of your Friday work hours to prepare for the week ahead. This means you can start Monday with a clean slate and a ready to-do list with no need to stress about forgetting something important.

Do the Hard Work First

Get the hardest task done first and you can continue your workday stress-free. It’s important to work on the most important thing while you’re still rested and focused, and if possible with no interruptions.

Set Time For Yourself

Having enough time to see your friends, exercise, and get rested is crucial for staying productive week after week. You don’t want to burn out but to keep a steady pace and that’s only possible if you allocate time for your own wants and needs.

No matter what kind of work you do, maintaining good posture throughout the day is crucial. Not only does it make you seem more professional, but it also helps to strengthen your back and decrease back pain now and later on in life. However, if you work a job where you have to sit down a lot, it can be difficult to manage your posture. Here are a few tips to help you go along your day.

  1. Keep your ears in line with your shoulders. Although that seems like an odd image, thinking about it in this way will give you an easy way to check if you’re leaning forward too much.
  2. Don’t cross your legs, always keep them on the ground. This promotes better posture and is better for your hips.
  3. Stand up and walk around as much as you can. Movement is the perfect anecdote to sitting down all day.
  4. If you can work standing up, definitely do it.
  5. If you have to sit, try using a lumbar support pillow. The pillow or even a rolled up towel will help you relieve some of the pressure and support your back instead of having to do it all yourself.

It’s generally believed that changing the usual surroundings is good for productivity. If you spend your days in an office, you can benefit from taking your laptop to a nearby coffee house. Is this really true?‌ Can you successfully work in such a relaxed environment?

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bz9-3fNppnN/

In March this year, neuropsychiatry researcher Onno van der Groen from Edith Cowan University published a paper in which he explained that the coffee shop atmosphere can have a positive effect on your productivity. It’s all about the background noise. The effect of background noise is actually so powerful that it can help your brain see things from a new perspective by disrupting a mental rut.

Of course, the noise can’t be too loud. The right amount of it is, according to van der Groen, even better for working than complete silence.

So, the next time you feel like it’s not your day to be productive, try taking your work to the nearest Starbucks. The effect may surprise you, but now you know that all those people with laptops in coffee shops aren’t faking it!

Do you have a side hustle?‌ Many people do and maybe you should consider it, too.

A side hustle is any kind of employment in addition to your main, full-time job. Not only does it serve as an additional source of income, but you can also do something on the side that you are passionate about, like being in a band or bartending.

While working more than 40 hours per week can have its own downsides, a side hustle can make you better at your day job. Here are 3 of the many ways you can benefit from clocking in a few extra hours every day after work.

New Skills

You will rapidly develop a new skill set that you can potentially use at your day job, too. Don’t be surprised if it leads to a promotion soon!

Confidence

When you know that you’re not completely dependent on that one job, you will act with much more confidence and it will show.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B0Y0oDbHiQ8/

Time Management

You’ll learn how to use your time in the best possible way and set priorities so you can get everything done. There’s just no avoiding this if you want to make both jobs work!

Pick something creative and different from your day job as a side hustle and change it as many times as you need until you find something that really sticks with you. This is the only recipe that will enable you to reap the benefits with minimal side effects.

As with all other addictions, workaholics will never admit that they have a problem with working too much. After all, isn’t it good to be productive and to not waste time?‌ In theory, yes, but there’s so much more to life than just work.

If you suspect you may be a workaholic, check if the following assumptions are true. If most of them are, you’re probably working too much.

  1. You’re constantly thinking about how you can squeeze in some more work in your free time.
  2. You always end up spending more time working than you initially planned.
  3. You keep working to avoid the feelings of guilt, anxiety, and depression.
  4. People have told you before that you should work less.
  5. If you’re unable to work, you feel stressed.
  6. Work is your top priority, above exercise, relaxing, and hobbies.
  7. You work so much that it has started to affect your health.

Remember that a fulfilled life requires balance and that you won’t get it by working your way through it. Working more often doesn’t mean doing more work. Productivity requires breaks, both short and long, so embrace relaxing and having fun with family and friends, as well as vacations.
