In a way, nail art is a temporary tattoo for your nails. It adds a splash of art to your body and it only lasts a few weeks. With a nail pen, your nails can become tiny little easels to express your mood and get creative.

For Vogue-featured nail artist Sojin Oh, nail art means something quite literal. She has been using her nails to create 3D nail art that looks like it should be hanging up in a modern art gallery.

Her creations are inspired by nature. Many of her recent creations were inspired by her newfound love of scuba diving. When Oh dives, she collects images of the weird and wonderful creatures that live beneath the ocean waves.

“It was so beautiful under the water,” Oh told Vogue. “I wanted to show people what I was seeing and simultaneously remind people of the importance of nature.”

The art Oh creates is like a miniature sculpture for the nails. In addition to being inspired by underwater, Oh recreates icicles and snow. Each piece she creates has a special meaning for her.

Vogue is more than a fashion magazine. It’s an international beacon of style, culture, and hope. Over the last few months, Vogue has been taking a stand with the Black Lives Matter movement and bringing people together during the pandemic. Here are some of the photoshoots that have us feeling empowered and inspired.

Simone Biles

Simone Biles appeared on the cover of Vogue in print and on the digital platform. If there is one word that describes this image, it is strong. In this photo, Biles embodies female power and beauty through her fierce pose and gorgeous outfit. Everything about this image is beautiful.

Yelaine Rodriguez

In this photo, Yelaine Rodriguez reflects on the experience of Black American life. This image depicts the birthing of a revolution with woven brown threads to symbolize the scars of the past.

For our Artist Statements project, where leading Black contemporary artists reflect on the agonies and the ecstasies of Black American life, Yelaine Rodriguez (@yelaineartspace) writes: "Oshun Orisha of Fertility: Help us Birth Generations of Revolutionary Womxn is a multimedia project that incorporates fashion, handwoven panels, video, and photography. Inspired by Oshun, the orisha of fertility, I conceptualized a wearable art piece in response to the concept of birthing a revolution. The sitter for Oshun wears a bright yellow dress in her honor, with a handwoven cape that brings together indigo blue threads, mimicking the Atlantic water that brought our ancestors to the Americas, with brown threads woven in a fashion that resembles scars. We stand on the shoulders of our ancestors that paved the way and pass the baton forward. So that we may continue to carry the message onward, therefore it may never be lost. The pass of the 19th Amendment was a group effort by women of different experiences, cultures, and economically diverse backgrounds. I am inspired by the Black womxn that, during the early stages of the movement, persevered for a brighter future. They trusted that the next generation would continue the fight. My work aspires to bring awareness to the Black women in the movement through Afro spirituality, traditions, and Afro-futuristic imagery." Courtesy of Yelaine Rodriguez

Luca Campri

Luca Campri beautifully captured his perspective on rural China in this stunning photo. During the shoot, Luca had no electricity or internet connection. This image reflects on the beauty of simplicity in rural China.

Billie Eilish

Seeing Billie Eilish on the cover of Vogue is a sign of how pop culture has changed. Eilish looks moody and brooding on this daring neon green cover that showcases the edgy side of modern pop.

Just like many other celebrities, Jessica Alba has spent years on makeup chairs and working on her own cosmetics brand. She picked up some makeup tricks in the process, but her favorite one comes from her mother and it’s about applying mascara.

In a new video for British Vogue, the actress explains that she remembers how she watched her mother applying mascara when she was little and that she still uses a makeup application trick she picked up back then. In a five-minute video, which you can watch below, we see Alba applying mascara primer before going for mascara. “I always use primer, and I like to just blink,” she says. “It gets the product all the way from the base of the lash to the ends.” How amazing is that?

Alba lets her primer dry before applying actual mascara. “Mascara is the most important because, at the end of the day, when you’re talking to people, I’m looking at your eyes,” Alba explains. “So I think this is where you should spend a good amount of time, even if you don’t spend too much time on anything else.”

We’re constantly looking for fashion advice, ideas, and inspiration, but not every source should be blindly trusted. Luckily, there are some persons that are absolute authorities in the fashion world, and listening to them will surely make you more stylish and teach you how to leave a better impression.

Today, we wanted to share what the style icon and editor-in-chief of Vogue, Anna Wintour, had to say about fashion.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BggodfqgGxy/?tagged=annawintour

“To me, fashion is ceaselessly fascinating because it is an expression of self.”

“One doesn’t want fashion to look ridiculous, silly, or out of step with the times – but you do want designers that make you think, that make you look at fashion differently. That’s how fashion changes. If it doesn’t change, it’s not looking forward. And that’s important to me.”

“If you can’t be better than your competition, just dress better.”

“I’m interested in seeing just the girl on the street because she is unlike any other. I’m inspired by whatever it is she might be wearing.”

“If my style is too direct for some, maybe they should toughen up a bit.”

“Imperfection is fine.”

“Fashion is not beautiful, neither is it ugly. Why should it be either? Fashion is fashion.”

“Fashion goes in only one direction -forward- and I am a firm believer in thinking that way too.”
