]]>The results showed that disrupted sleep or not, participants’ blood glucose responses didn’t worsen. However, the blood glucose response of those who had black coffee before the sugary drink (AKA ‘breakfast’) spiked by about 50%.
This suggests that relying on coffee to stop feeling sleepy could limit your body’s ability to tolerate the sugar in your breakfast. What’s the best time to drink coffee then? Experts recommend drinking your cup in the mid-morning or early afternoon.

]]>According to research published in the British Journal of Medicine, we finally know the sweet spot of daily exercise that your body requires daily if you sit 10 hours. As it seems, 30-40 minutes of mild to vigorous activity is enough to stop linking a sedentary lifestyle with a higher risk of death.
The research included 44,370 participants who were monitored for various number of years—from 4 to 14.5. Over time, researchers concluded that “higher sedentary time is associated with higher mortality in less active individuals,” and “those in the lowest third of [mild-to-vigorous physical activity] had a greater risk of death in all combinations with sedentary time.”
This is just another proof that daily activity is very important for overall health, so make sure to include it no matter how busy you are.

]]>New research has found that there are people with two copies of a particular taste gene who are affected by this. The researchers believe this can be the explanation behind why some people go out of their way to avoid vegetables as adults. The excess gene mentioned makes particular foods like sprouts and broccoli more bitter and less tasty.
They warn that this could affect some people’s diets and prevent them from eating the recommended daily dose of fruits and vegetables. If you fall under this group of people, perhaps you can change the way you prepare certain vegetables or you can try eating non-bitter veggies more. We just hope you’re aware of all the health benefits that come from eating a balanced diet that includes all food groups.

]]>Over the past decade, the fitness industry has changed a lot. Not only we now lift more weights and do less cardio, but it also turned out that some of the exercises we used to do religiously don’t really have much effect. Crunches went from a necessary to obsolete exercise, but what’s the reason for that?
Crunches have been considered a harmful exercise recently because they’re connected to spinal disk injuries. Also, there are many exercises that work multiple core muscles at once, including the abdominal muscles, which makes crunches inefficient and unnecessary.
One of the most frequently cited studies on this topic was published in 2001 and in it, the researchers showed that there’s a connection between spinal flexion and disc damage. To be fair, it was done on pigs, not people, so you probably shouldn’t be too worried if you enjoy benefits from crunches and want to continue doing them.

As winter is quickly approaching, the cold weather is starting to affect us all. Whether you have bad skin in the winter or really chapped lips, the weather can hit you hard. Right about now everyone is going out and restocking their favorite lip balms, but is that really the solution to dry lips? Some people say it actually makes it worse, so read on to figure out is your lip balm is really betraying you.
Some lip balms include ingredients like hyaluronic acid and glycerin. These two products actually suck moisture out of your lips and then the water gets evaporated, leaving your lips even drier than before! However, if your lip balm has either of these two ingredients in them, that doesn’t necessarily mean it will not work. If the ingredients also include beeswax or shea butter, then you’re good to go. This is because these two ingredients act as a barrier between your lips and the moisture getting evaporated, so your lips won’t get dried out.

If you want to decrease your chances of dried lips completely, instead of using lip balm try coconut oil, pure shea butter, vitamin E, or castor oil.
