With a rich yet painful history, Native American people have no shortage of miraculous stories to tell. If you’re looking for your next book that is sure to captivate your heart of imagination, here are some riveting books by Native American authors that you won’t want to put down.

Night Of The Living Rez

This dark humor book by Morgan Talty tells the story of a group of people living on the Maine Penobscot reservation. While navigating serious topics such as family tragedy and poverty, this novel also explores themes of perseverance and love.

The Heartbeat Of Wounded Knee

This intriguing tale by David Treuer is filled with historical events and memoirs, describing how American Indians first came into contact with settlers. Furthermore, this story shows hardships such as land seizures and forced assimilation contributed to Native American people’s will to survive.

Code Talker

Written by Joseph Bruchac, this young adult novel will resonate with any history and war buff. This is a tale based on the miraculous work of the Navajo code talkers, who carried messages in their native language for US troops during World War II. It was this bravery that contributed to victory in the devastating war that affected the world.

Buying books and reading books are two different hobbies, and the real trouble starts when you notice they barely overlap. If you’re caught in a vicious circle of buying books that you don’t even read, these useful tips will help you put a stop to it.

Avoid Temptations

If you already have too many books at home that you haven’t read, it’s important to avoid temptations. Don’t go to bookstores too often, and unsubscribe from their newsletters so you wouldn’t be tempted to spend money when there are sales and discounts.

Better Choices

The books you haven’t read will keep piling up if you’re buying them for no good reason. Stick to purchasing books that come highly recommended or the ones you really want to read. If you’re a mood reader, avoid buying things “for later” and only stick to books that you want to dive into right away.

Have a Limit

Set boundaries for yourself by limiting the number of books you can buy or the amount of money you can spend on them. In addition to helping you avoid mindless spending, this technique will help you only buy the books that you’re really interested in.

In a time where everything is fast-paced and online, it’s rare to find the time to pick up a book and read. Whether you’re an advanced reader or have not touched a book since high school, here are our three favorite books we’ve read in 2022.

Colleen Hoover, It Begins With Us

Colleen Hoover is one of the most recognizable authors for modern female readers. In 2016 she released It Ends With Us. This incredibly emotional story left readers wanting more. As a result of the viral demand, Hoover wrote a sequel, It Begins With Us in late 2022, which answers all the burning questions that readers had.

Jennifer Egan, The Candy House

This book has been one of the most anticipated books of the year. This novel is a follow-up to Jennifer’s earlier work, A Visit from the Goon Squad, which won her a Pulitzer Prize in 2010. It was applauded for its innovative structure and writing technique. At the same time, Egan takes on a fresh commentary on technology, memory, and privacy through 14 interlinked stories.

Xochitl Gonzalez, Olga Dies Dreaming

Museums, castles, beaches, and amusement parks always make it to the list of top attractions in every major city, but how about bookstores? You don’t have to be a huge book lover to find something interesting inside them, and here are five reasons why you should explore them every time you travel.

Architectural Marvels

Some of the world’s most stunning bookstores are located inside breathtaking historical buildings and they’re worth the visit for their architectural beauty alone.

Bookstore Cafés

Many bookstores around the world come with a charming café on the premises, where you can relax after a long day of sightseeing.

Great New Books

Buying books is the most obvious reason for visiting a bookstore, but there’s a catch. Bookstores in foreign countries are a great place to discover new books that you couldn’t find at home.

Amazing Souvenir

Bookstores also happen to be a great place to find souvenirs—from books to other tiny trinkets that you can take home to your loved ones.

Local Experience

Since they’re usually not as popular as some other tourist attractions, bookstores are a great place to mingle with the locals and attend a wide range of cultural events, from reading nights to art exhibitions and concerts.

Since we’re kids, it’s made pretty clear to us just how important and beneficial—and yes, even fun—reading is. But then you become an adult and you stop getting summer reading lists and you get very busy and all of a sudden you realize that you can’t even remember the last time you read a book. Oops. If that sounds familiar and you want to change it, here are some tips for helping you read more.

Read Books You Like

It may seem like an obvious one, but so many people try to force themselves to read the books that they feel like they “should” be reading, sacrificing the enjoyment and ultimately dropping off because they’re not actually having any fun at all. If you want to start building up a reading habit, it’s important to choose books you like. You can challenge yourself later on when you’re already in the habit of reading a lot.

Quit Early

Similarly, if you start a book and realize that you’re not feeling it as much as you expected, don’t hesitate to stop reading it. It’s okay to be a quitter in this context.

Build Reading Time Into Your Day

The best way to make a habit of reading is to include it into your routine. Whether it’s in the morning, before bed, during lunch, or on the bus, even 15 minutes of daily reading time will add up quick.

The fact that reading is good for you isn’t up for debate. We all know it. And most of us wish that we read more. The truth is that these days we spend way more time on the internet or watching TV than we do reading. If you want to change that, here are some tips to help you increase how much you read.

Always Keep a Book On You

Most of us aren’t so good at dealing with idle time, so we tend to pull out our phones. But if you used all of those moments of waiting for the bus, waiting in line, or waiting for your coffee order to read instead of scroll Instagram, imagine how much more reading you’d get done!

Find Books You Love

Many people who don’t like to read have bad associations of it from childhood when they were forced to read books in school they weren’t interested in. Well, there’s no reason to make yourself read boring books! There is pretty much a 100% chance you can find a book you’ll enjoy, so choose those instead of trying to force yourself through The Iliad or something (unless that’s what you’re into!).

“Reading more” is one of those New Year’s resolutions we all make, but struggle upholding as the months go by. If you want to stay true to this decision and expand your reading list in 2021, these three amazing strategies will get you there.

Reading Goal

If you’re a goal-oriented person, setting a reading goal for 2021 may just be the wind in the back you need. Be realistic yet ambitious at the same time—reading one or two books a month is a good place to start if you’re yet to make reading a part of your daily routine.

Make Right Choices

It’s difficult to stay passionate about reading when you’re not reading books that interest you. Instead of wasting time on books that you think you have to read, focus on the ones that actually seem fun, and you’ll find it much easier to reach your goals.

Alternative Options

If you’re never going off the paper when it comes to reading, 2021 is the perfect time to start. We’re not saying you should ditch paper books altogether, just consider the alternatives. Whenever you find yourself endlessly scrolling through social media, open up an e-book or audiobook on your phone, and you’ll develop a healthy reading habit in no time.
